My understanding is that it is not a very well-liked film, but we just finished watching it & absolutely loved it.

It is certainly not 1 or 2 in terms of quality, but we enjoyed it a whole of a hell lot more than 3.

Thoughts?

Sequels/Spin offs are such a strange thing. I just finished watching the newest Naked Gun with Liam Neeson, it has a 60 something rating but I think it just might be the greatest movie I've ever watched. So many laughs. I think part of it has to do with your affinity for the series to begin with. If you loved Kung Fu panda throughout, you're probably not going to hate the fourth one. But I guess sometimes if you love it too much you'll hate it because it's not like it was before, that happens with sequels too! This happened with me and the fourth matrix. The fourth matrix makes me a sad panda :( lol but maybe others love it? You know?

I think the Kung-Fu Panda 1 was the goat!
The quality and the sheer amount of details in the both story and presentation was legendary!

None of the latter ones were even close to it in my opinion...

And yeah... i enjoyed watching them all!
They are all still great, just not in the same level.

To be honest I scared to watch the 4th movie because I love the trilogy the third of the movie ending having Po be the master of chi I scared if they nerf him on 4.

kung fu panda 1 and 2 was a great movies
the 3 movie i only liked the ending because it feels like a true ending to kung fu panda

the 4 movie is not the best but i did enjoy it more than the 3 movie

1 is great! I think that's where the fighting choreography peaked (nothing tops that bridge scene)

2 is my favorite since that's where the story and character development peaked. It's pretty damn deep for a kid's film and it's not afraid to talk about genocide and trauma

3 is pretty good, I don't have any strong opinions about it other than the ending. I think it leans too much on its comedy rather than the fight scenes or characters which have always been the franchise's highlights

4 is so mid. The problems from 3 is more apparent here in that there's no depth in character or world building, and it's pretty cheap humor. I can go on the many issues, but the biggest one is that it added pretty much nothing to the table, and for a 4th movie that came out 8 years after the third, there's very little impact.
