The SLUS / SLES / ULES.... serial numbers on PlayStation are freakin awesome!!

I am referring to the codes and numbers that appear on the spines of PlayStation console games.

In this case, example about PSP game boxes and their codes.

The game in the middle is Wipeout Pure.
With UCES code

U- for UMD format
C- for Sony distributed game
E- for European region
S- for serial game

And the number 00001... means that this is the first PSP game released here in Europe.

Don't you think it's pretty cool?

I still remember PS2 codes. SLES for PAL games, SLUS for US games. They work the same way as PSP I believe, SLPM and SLPS are (S)ony (L)icensed, and SCPM and SCPS are (S)ony (C)omputer, if I am not mistaken. The PS meant first edition, the PM meant re-release, or something like that.

When Sony managed to put That type of serials/codes like this:

U: Universal Media Disc (PSP Only)
S: Sony
C: Computer (1st Party) or L: Licensed (3rd Parties)
A/E/J/U: Game Region
Another S & Number in 4/5 Characters: Serial

Yes they are cool, when I make design of high tech stuff I always put serial numbers and cool lines and shit to make it look futuristic. I'm glad it's the style Hideo Kojima likes too for it makes the game cooler.

Well they matter when you buy a console game for region locked consoles, finding cheats for games for cheats are region version specific and whatnot technical stuff. For example for PS2 digital memory card files their names are game ID and all so because all of these I even memorized game ID of some games lol.

I actually use these serial numbers + extra as passwords so I can simultaneously reminisce about my favorite games as I do day-to-day stuff. These are forever part of my life now lol.

They are VERY efficient, but they can also make finding codes for games that require to know which version they are for into a bit of a nightmare.

That's a lot, it's fascinating, but the majority and large part of my games are in SLES because they often contain several languages and that is important to me
