is my most modern and played system I own. It has truly amazing games and made me a Sony gaming fan. I also own a WiiU which apparently is more modern and has better graphical abilities but I dont see it. I am playing games like Uncharted and also still Socom has multiplayer online every weekend some people playing and I think to myself imagine if WiiU had one of these series of games exclusive to it. it probably wouldn't have failed?

The WiiU was the nichest of niches when it comes to consoles, in no small part to the weird controller idea and something of a title drought in a general sense. The PS3 was pretty powerful itself, but graphical quality can be hard to measure as different games (and consoles) use different approaches. Realistical does not automatically equal good in every possible context.

Like imagine if it hd the uncharted games all exclusive and first coming out on Wiiu. it wouldn't have failed. Sony makes the best games.

I mean name me one game as graphically impressive even as the original uncharted on the Wii. the foliage or tuna shadow son rocks, the sunsets etc

If Mario Kart and Smash Bros couldn't save the WiiU, how would Uncharted saved it? Uncharted didn't make much of a difference for the PS3 it was Call of Duty actually.

If were talking graphical capabilities on the WiiU it would be Pikmin 3

The ps3 is a great machine when modded, I use it for a lot, and there's many great games stuck on that machine that weren't rereleased or made specifically for the ps3 and thus can't actually be ported to anything without rewriting the entire games code.

Macross 30 is so bad it only runs well from the disc, it emulates like ass and when run as an ISO on the ps3, the framerate drops to 12-15 fps. Even though as far a the ps3 is concerned, it's the actual disc in there. Crazy.

Uncharted is a very divisive game series, it's fans swear, hand on heart, that they are groundbreaking system sellers.

They were always either, shallow prince or persia platforming style traversal with cover based shooting mechanics with the appeal being that it's some millennial aimed version version of Indiana jones that makes quips and has off brand Indiana jones music OR they were amazing, and not at all like anything else ever made, EVER!.

Seems it depends on if you played RE4, gears or war or even prince or persia beforehand, if you played none of these around the time the uncharted games came out, then the games will seem like some sort of masterclass as opposed to being extremely derivative, which they objectively are in literally every way. The second game was graphically impressive though, I'll give it that.

They aren't bad games, just highly derivative and had many fans that hadn't played any of the games the took a little too much inspiration from. Honestly it was an odd time, I've known many that were between 5-10 years younger than me and Uncharted was one of the first games with all these gameplay elements, they get absolutely gobsmacked when it's pointed out that they aren't genre defining or system sellers.

Also only 15% of ps4 owners bought uncharted 4, uncharted is not synonymous with being a system seller at all.

As for Sony making the best games, they insist a little too much on making games that aren't graphically impressive but fairly basic gameplay, the best game they brought out recently was ghost of tsushima.

As for the wiiU, the extreme lack of third party support killed it, alongside the console being name like it was a peripheral for the Wii and not actually a successor system to the wii, the general public had no interest and nintendo lost favour with core gamers after the wii until the switch was released. There was no saving the wiiU.

Comparing the wii to the ps3 is kinda pointless in terms of graphics, it was two seperate generations, the wii was essentially a recased gamecube with different contoller functionality.

This will make a fine addition to my PS3 Collection.

The most modern game console I own is a PS4, which was given to me by a friend who didn't want it. It's been played a grand total of five hours by me, maybe somewhat less. I play my Vita more honestly hell, I actually play my Vita daily, which is more than I can say for the PS4 that's collecting dust in a box under my bookshelf

I do have a PS3, and it has the same fate as the PS4

It's actually a great game, it's a semi open world action RPG and many macross fans actually kept their PS3 because of it.

Being a massive macross fan, it's obviously more enjoyable for me, but the amount of stuff going on at once, a party of three valkyrie, a massive enemy ship, 10 enemy valkyries and hundreds of missile trails and the game keeps its framerate up.

I only discovered the disc thing out of lazyness, I didn't want to put the disc into the tray anymore or go upstairs and get the game so I put in on my hardrive. Game tanked down to 10 fps just on the run way, Is the only ps3 game that does this as an ISO as far as I am aware, I've tried hundreds of games booted from my ps3, even ps2 games etc., nothing behaved like macross 30.

I'm into modding over 30 years at this stage too, since I was a kid using disc swap on a ps1 beofre moving onto to much more complex things, also am currently a computer science student, going into year 4 of my uni degree(thought i'd make my hobby into my job lmao), and I've never seen such high optimisation that leads to poor optimisation in a way, I think the Jak games are the only thing close to it and even then, not a candle to the how macross 30's dev was handled.

The same company did 3 other games for the ps3 and they run perfectly as an ISO, but because both macross 30, and it's sequel, Macross Delta on the ps Vita, both use the same game engine, optimised for sonys machines alone, and as such, emulate like ass, however there's a digital version of the delta and that runs perfectly on OG hardware digital or physical, as it was released officially on the psn store. It's macross 30 that has this issue and yes, it actually shows how much a ps3 could actually display and not chug framerates, it's one of the few games that showed this.

It actually has a poor rating on a ISO site because it emulates like ass and won't run well outside of the disc in the disc drive, so most people just think it runs like ass. So there's a poor opinion on a really good game because it can't be enjoyed outside of an actual disc on OG hardware. Ironic, as it seems to be from such specific optimisation, that it's technically poorly optimised . I had to actually post about this on the macross reddit, that the poor opinion of the game would be alleviated if everyone had a ps3 and physical copy. This and delta are the best macross games. There's also how much power they managed to get out of the psp is no joke either with the frontier games. Artdink knew their way around sonys machines.

Vita is seriously just gold, I've the japanese red oled model, play it frequently unless I am playing something that isn't on it, then it's modded ps3 or modded 2ds or my switch.

I do have a ps5, only because my ps4 pro was a piece of shit that kept overheating and getting really noisy playing most games. My ps5 makes no noise at all outside of slight whine when booted up.

The Ps3 had something going for but the exclusives werent even that much better compared to the Xbox 360 .

While the X360 was and still is very affordable to get with almost the same third party catalogue as the ps3 , overall had both consoles rather mediocre till cool exclusive games that are not really that huge must-haves to get . But the Shovel-ware are on both consoles horrible and dreadfull .

Remember Haze ? Remember the kinect and PS-move games ? Remember the whole wave of Gears of War- , God of war- and Call of Duty- clones that oversaturated the systems ? Or how about the watered-downed RPGs that were more diablo-clones with extra tedium added ? (Dragon age , mass effect , Elder scrolls , Fallout , some JRPGs are exceptions )

The generation before was much more outshining with its games tbh.

The PS3/X360 era was the peak of online gaming but the start of the downfall of the gaming industry on my perspective.

I still have my PS3 because its a bit of a pain to emulate.
It has a ton of great games though! I greatly preferred it over my Xbox 360 which I only played for a few exclusives.

at the time of this post i already bought a copy. ::simbatwerking I recently watched Macross Frontier and re-watched the movies they are quite fun.

do you really think the wii u is more niche than consoles like the virtual boy or atari jaguar?
while the wii u was generally unpopular i think it was more understood and more actively purchased than consoles such as the great big onezors previously mentioned

Awesome, enjoy!

It was what introduced me to anime, so I've been a lifelong fan of it.

Got Macross DYRL in 4k back in January, has english subs, I am delighted with it. Macross is one the few things where I will own as much as possible, physically, I even have macross DYRL for the ps1 in complete, pristine condition.

I'm just awaiting the release of frontier in the west, alongside 7 and delta.

I've gone through 3 PS3s because each one had problems. I hate this system so much but I also love its library of games that I cannot enjoy anywhere else unless I go back a gen. Metal Gear Solid 4, Zone of the Enders HD, 3rd Strike Online Edition, Mortal Kombat 9 (which has been delisted from steam), and Demon's Souls (I'm not buying a console with no games just to play a 1 to 1 remake). Being a PS3 owner is a life of pain and misery.

3D Dot Game Heroes.
I refuse to elaborate further.

the original model playstation 3? if so i do agree with your statement
my slim playstation 3 has worked for quite a while with no errors, and it generates less heat too, whereas my old playstation 3 'fat' consoles failed quite often
i have a playstation 2 next to my playstation 3, so i do not mind the lack of backwards compatibility on the slim models

I love my PS3 with a passion.

I own around 17 physical games for it, I have a lot of accessories, I write my articles on it... It was (and still is) the last system that made me feel like giving a damn about it and rewarding it with my wallet, something that hadn't happened since I got a DreamCast nearly twenty years prior.

I had 2 original models. A 40 GB and an 80 GB. Both failed eventually. Then I bought a the super slim with 250 GBs but guess what. The disk thing would just fail to read any of my disks at some point and I got so mad I just gave up on the PS3. $160 down the drain.

it is interesting to hear how many users here consider the playstation 3 generation the last console generation they were interested in
it is true for me as well, the playstation 3 was the last video game console i really wanted to own and enjoyed playing on
wizardry, dragons crown, demons souls, metal gear, lots of good stuffs

I really missed out on a lot of what the PS3 could offer since I always ran into problems. I just wish PS3 games were playable on later hardware instead of waiting for them to be rereleased. I waited like 6 years to play P4 Arena Ultimax again on next gen and I really liked that game on my PS3.

that is sad to hear - unfortunately i have done the great large hearing that the 'super' slim model of playstation 3 cheaped out on the parts of the system
so it seems like the original slim model is still the ideal model to own for the sake of durability, even if it lacks some of the features of the original playstation 3 model
you might be able to mod your playstation 3 super slim to play homebrew off the hard drive directly, bypassing the need for your unworking disc drive

I dont know about other people, but for me its the lack of exclusives coupled with the fact that I can get things on Steam/GOG for cheaper and have it all on one upgradeable machine. I had a ps4 and I have a ps5, but I just dont play them NEARLY as much as PC.

I will say I was pretty into Switch when it came out, mostly due to nostalgic exclusive series like Zelda. But now I emulate that too lol

You'll hate to hear this but I threw it away. Only time I throw away consoles is if they are truly dead, but this was the exception.
