Yup. The first SEGA system. And by far their most boring, since they didn’t really have a console development division yet got software, so the software that came out for it are mostly of the “low quality arcade port” or “Japanese simulator” variety. Not to say nothing good came from it, but there actually IS a reason you’ve never heard of any games for it: it’s just kinda there.

I don’t want to roast this thing non-stop. I’ll try out some games via emulation later (they’re very easy to emulate), and I won’t deny that the hardware history is FASCINATING. I think the system looks incredible! It’s like a cool technological art piece! So distinctly Sci-fi that I can’t help but love the look of it. But lacking any singular game that I’ve ever seen anybody recommend (even the SEGA super hardcore) really does taint this poor fella for me. I also think that it’s a CRIME that this system has a tag, but the Original XBox and XBox 360 STILL DON’T.

I have not seen much of this console and have never played it. I am considering emulating this console now. Thank you for writing this post.

We’ll have to write about our game experiences here! I would love more than anything to be proven wrong and for this console to have a bunch of awesome arcade style games that people don’t know about!

All the games can be played on the Master System and I think some were actually released for it in the West. The games are really simple because the console was similar to a Colecovision or first-generation MSX computer. Coincidentally, Golgo 13 is the main game I played for it. It's basically a shooting mini-game where you're trying to pop windows on a moving train. Basic but kind of addictive.

The SG-1000 is the most niche Sega console, though there were many more obscure Japanese consoles (most of them failed). I've played a handful of games for it emulated. I kind of put it in the same niche as the early Atari consoles. They're just a bit too simple and unrefined for my tastes. Something that would be cool to have that I would almost never play.

Honestly, I never knew the 1st Sega Console and also that I only knew it through emulation in 2021 on my Tablet that had the Emulator called GearMasterPlayer and that's where I started emulating games on that system that I played like 50 games or more.

It's a fascinating little curiosity. Not really something to invest a lot of time in playing, but it's good to be able to see more of Sega's history.

My favourite game for it is easily Space Invaders, thanks to the original game being old enough to not hinder the quality of the port.
