It seems weird in retrospect, since no one else in my family was into video games, and going by inflation a Nintendo wouldn't have been cheap by any means back then. Games were more expensive too, so why were there so many NES systems around? Some friends of my parents had a NES also when we'd go over to visit. Somehow the system was ubiquitous and omnipresent, kind of like the Wii was for a while in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
