Ongoing Project The ever growing history of Roblox single player adventure games WIP

Whenever you think about “Roblox games” your mind will probably jump to the more basic games on the site like Grow a Garden, Pet Sim (Or I like to call it Casino Sim for kids), Brookhaven, and so on and so on.

I know not exactly the more fun game if you play actual games, to many people Roblox seems like a massive waste of time but what if I told you that one of Roblox’s least popular genre just casually has some of the best games on the site, the single player adventure games.

Single player adventure games (or Spag for short) is actually one of Roblox’s oldest genres, up there with Brick Battling games (Roblox’s oldest genre) have basically been here since day one way back in 2006 after Roblox’s public release.

Chapter One: The Beginnings

Spag games would begin as simple obstacle courses but later shortened to obby because kids couldn’t spell obstacle course correctly, most of these games would rely on the tool box for obstacles, in one stage you be jumping across kill bricks then to jumping on trampolines but most old obby games (before 2016) or any old games that weren’t fixed after client engine changes are unplayable and one of the most historic spag games would be a victim of these updates.

RAtroN is the first major Spag game to gain popularity on the site, RAtroN engine heavily relies on the old and broken 2007/2008 Roblox character engine, but since then has been changed to the more modern 2024 engine for the special ability item, the sword.

But even with updates large parts of the game are left broken like enemies and level gimmicks making some missions impossible nowadays.

For the story of the game I’m gonna show the description since I can’t beat the game because of its age
“The original Roblox Adventure trilogy comes to a close as Roblox is overcome by a dark force that's absorbing the creative energy from Roblox itself! Collect the Roblox Tokens and restore Roblox to its former glory before it's too late!”
NOTE (I’m deeply sorry for not being able to beat the game but I felt like it had to be included for its importance to future Spag games will hopefully be reviewed in more detail)

However with the success of RAtroN most old Spag games would be rather simple, not much innovation because of the 2006-2012 Roblox client not being able to handle larger games at the time but this would soon change.

I don’t really know actually, it went form a virtual sandbox for kids then to a game engine for beginners and know for some reason it’s a metaverse? Idk what it is anymore at this point

i feel like a lot of people write off roblox for various reasons but i think its a cool way for younger people to get into game design (aside from all the ya know exploitation)
