Whenever you think about “Roblox games” your mind will probably jump to the more basic games on the site like Grow a Garden, Pet Sim (Or I like to call it Casino Sim for kids), Brookhaven, and so on and so on.

I know not exactly the most fun games if you play actual games, to many people Roblox seems like a massive waste of time but what if I told you that one of Roblox’s least popular genre just casually has some of the best games on the site, the single player adventure games.

Single player adventure games (or Spag for short) is actually one of Roblox’s oldest genres, up there with Brick Battling games (Roblox’s oldest genre) have basically been here since day one way back in 2006 after Roblox’s public release.

Chapter One: The Beginnings

Spag games would begin as simple obstacle courses but later shortened to obbys because kids couldn’t spell obstacle course correctly, most of these games would rely on the tool box for obstacles, in one stage you be jumping across kill bricks then to jumping on trampolines but most old obby games (before 2016) or any old games that weren’t fixed after client engine updates are now unplayable and one of the most historic spag games would be a victim of these updates.

Roblox Adventure: the rise of Nobeesi

RAtroN is the first major Spag game to gain popularity on the site, RAtroN engine heavily relies on the old and broken 2007/2008 Roblox character engine, but since then has been changed to the more modern 2024 engine for the special ability item, the sword.
But even with updates large parts of the game are left broken like enemies and level gimmicks making some missions impossible nowadays.
For the story of the game I’m gonna show the description since I can’t beat the game because of its age
“The original Roblox Adventure trilogy comes to a close as Roblox is overcome by a dark force that's absorbing the creative energy from Roblox itself! Collect the Roblox Tokens and restore Roblox to its former glory before it's too late!”
NOTE (I’m deeply sorry for not being able to beat the game but I felt like it had to be included for its importance to future Spag games will hopefully be reviewed in more detail)

Chapter 2: An ever changing set of expectations

Adventure Forward: Star Savior

Oh boy reviewing this game is gonna be a nightmare, why? Because the original version was deleted (more on that later) so I’m gonna have to rely on the Mercs Archive version but that won’t even help because of Roblox client engine updates have made the game broken.
I was only able to make to level 3, pharaoh falls was completely broken, tropical isle had a few stars I could get but not possible, only whistling woods is completely possible to beat with a few broken obstacles and I can’t get enough stars for level 4, this remaster of a classic game needs a remaster.
However AF1 when it did work it was one of the most popular games on the site and even considered to be the best, nowadays we see the game as a shell of its former glory but back then it was glorious so I’m gonna link a YouTube playlist of when the game did work

Anyways the games story revolves around the star stealer knocking out all of the stars from the sky and your job is to return the stars and save the day, not much to note.

The Day Noobs took over Roblox 2

This game is a masterpiece (A Roblox masterpiece), it still works and the soundtrack alone is amazing (I’m currently in the process of archiving it)

Also it’s possible to beat this game so let’s not waste anymore time and talk about this classic
The story of TdNtoR 2 begins on a normal 8 years after the fall of the Noob King where seemingly out of nowhere a new ruler of the noobs , the Noob queen and soon Roblox is quickly taken over and it becomes the players job to save the day
Your journey takes you all over the world of Roblox, escaping the facilities through the seas to the city ruins and the Noob kingdom where instead of fighting the Noob queen in a fight a glory, she gives you a choice, to make peace with the noobs, apparently her plan was not to take over Roblox but make peace with Robloxian’s instead, if you don’t kill her than all peace throughout Roblox is restored

There are also 2 more secret endings and a lot of bonus chapters but you can do that in your own time.

Adventure Forward: Points of Conflict

Before I talk about this game I’m going to be playing the remake instead of the original because the original version is very broken nowadays.
Adventure Forward is a HUGE step up from the first game with more ambitious levels and story.
In this game your goal is to collect a amount of stars in a level to eventually beat the guardians obstacle course to earn their emblem and then unlock the gate to earn the next batch of levels to then eventually defeat Celesteal and save the day.
AF2:PoC would instantly go down as a Roblox classic (until 2018), the ambitious gameplay, characters, and story would resonate with players for many years to come.

Chapter 3: A short lived golden era

Robot 64
Release: 10/15/2017

If you were to have asked me what game changed Roblox it would be Robot 64, not only it used it own engine separate from the normal character engine it also has it own soundtrack, all games up to this point didn’t have a fully original soundtrack, RAtroN didn’t have one original song, the Adventure Forward series used a few songs and sound effects from Mario games but Robot 64 had all original sounds, and surprisingly that’s pretty revolutionary.
Anyways Robot 64 is pretty weird, you go to a Hotel that bans stinky robots where you then fight the manager in his ufo.

Then after that you can throw him into a black void after you defeat him.

Then you go to a turtle island, a candy aquarium, hell, a giant bedroom, a neon city, and then the MOON to kill the sun.

And in the meantime somehow save the day by destroying the main source of light for the entire galaxy.
This game is really fun, would suggest, as the name says it’s heavily based off of Super Mario 64 for the N64 and if you enjoyed that or any other platformers this is a must play for at least once.
Even got a collab in Tower Hero’s.

Adventure Forward: Crown of Shadows

AF3 is by far the most ambitious Roblox game of 2017 (besides jail break), this time around you can really see a actual game here (for 2010 Roblox standards), featuring many new guardians, levels, and gimmicks.
This all sounds great but where is the review itself? Well this game is lost to time (kinda). Only a few levels were made before its cancelation after the lead developer and creator, Explode1 was exposed for some truly terrible things

The Explode1 controversy

So what was this horrendous thing that Explode1 did? To put it into PG-13 terms he harassed the AF team and kids plus many more terrible things I cannot list here, and shortly after he was banned from all platforms and the AF team would take the Adventure Forward IP and turn it into something new but that’s for later but many major Spag games would end up cancelled, all major Spag games would end up cancelled until 2020 where the curse would be lifted
