Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept everything.
Leon is going to be the action-heavy part of the next Resident Evil — shocking, I know.
The Street Fighter movie wasn’t a joke after all.
A new Nioh and a new Ace Combat were announced.
The remake of the first Tomb Raider looks more interesting than the new game, which already says a lot.
Sakura Miko didn’t win Content Creator of the Year.
The second season of The Last of Us won Best Adaptation — don’t ask me how, I haven’t seen anyone praising it.
The legendary orchestra flutist is still absolutely incredible.
And Kojima didn’t go on stage or say a word this time.

All in all, it was a decent show. Better than last year’s, at least.

im happy an indie game won instead of more triple a slop

Zero surprises that E33 got so many awards, although deserved. But it would've been equally deserved if Silksong or KCD2 had gotten the GOTY award

Except that it's not an indie game, given that a large group of people worked on it, the director is a nepo baby, and he received funding from various sources, including the government.

The Game Awards are just a joke and a showcase for the video game industry. I don't understand why people take this event seriously as if it were the Oscars.

Technically Nioh 3 was announced back in June. I got to play the alpha a few months ago and I'm pretty excited for it.

There wasn't too much new for me this show aside from a new Mega Man and Ace Combat, but I've still got a lot I'm looking forward to.

People actually watch these things?

I honestly just skip it and skim the game reveal's afterwards, it's the only part I really care about. Award shows always just feel like people in the business patting themselves on the back to me.

I can't ever watch awards shows - of any kind. Just so much back-patting and self-congratulation.

It is nice to catch a recap and get caught up on the new announcements, though. But in saying that, nothing that was announced at this show jumped out to me. More remakes and sequels. More "new" games that just feel derivative of another work. Yawn 🥱

Granted, I'm old, and don't keep up with modern gaming (hence having a profile on Retro Game Talk...) so I'm not really the target audience for this sort of thing, anyway! But I hope that everyone who watched it had a good time, and got what they wanted out of it 😇

I saw like a minute of this crap, and it was that boring guy (who teh fuck is he to organize those awards? can anyone tell me? I mean... who is that guy??), saying nominees and winners at full speed, as he was like handing out donuts, with no winners appearing in any moment to say some words of gratitude.

That is the most stupid ceremony of awards I've ever seen in my life. And this crap pretends to be serious?

Man, If you organize a "prize awards", and you are the host, YOU ARE NOT THE STAR, the winners ARE. SO please, take some minuts of the awards to listen to them.
Or even better, don't organize ANY awards at all, cause... who the fuck are you?? XD You do not represent any developers/publishers organization, nor even any important media, nor any "players organization", and you are not a recognized (actual or retired) figure inside the industry as a developer or executive of any company.
You are just a random guy, with a lot of money behind and nobody seems to know why, so... what cock you s***ed?

Anyways... one of the "winners" he just said, during that rushing award frenzy he got (it is like seeing a kid doing "a game awards" in his room) was "Final Fantasy Tactics".
Final Fantasy Tactics... winning a trophy, in 2025..., as "the best simulation/strategy game".
GO TO FUCK YOURSELF.

What... an insult. A "remaster" (just an HD version) of the same 1998 game.
Really?
Did you know the PSX original version was never published in Europe? But wins a trophy in the "Game Awards" of 2025. Amazing. XD.
If they wanted to give something to SE, they always could give them some trophy for the FFXIV online support, or community, as they apparently have those categories in those awards.

Anyways (again)... apparently this year there is a game SO GOOD, it basically wipe out the competition in all the "big categories" but at the same time, I had to google the name to discover what it is (amazing).

I seems to be a mix of FFXV aesthetics, and Metaphor: ReFantazio gameplay. I didn't liked FFXV and I found Metaphor extremely hyped for the game it really is by the actual standards. SO, perfect combination to win, I suppose.
Apparently the game is also an "Indie" game, and from a new Indie developer! Because it won those categories. Yeah, sure... If that game is "Indie", Nintendo is Indie, and I'm the Pope.
That game obviously had a LOT of money and many people behind it.
I don't know what they understand as an "indie game" in the "Game Awards"... but it differs a lot from the original meaning.

And a trophy for GTAVI. Because... why not, I suppose. Like the "FIFA Peace Prize".

What a joke of awards.
Really... who pays that crap?

The fun part is getting together with friends, not really paying attention to what’s being said, and making fun of everything and everyone. After all, no award nomination is truly genuine — whether it’s the Oscars, the TGA, or anything else — since it’s all bought or decided by popular vote, and that doesn’t mean quality.
In the end, that’s it: if you watch it alone and try to take it seriously, it just gets tiring. I mean… they kept hyping up some ‘incredible’ new game that would change the industry, but it was just another generic title with PS3 graphics. So, like I said before, it’s only worth it if you’re watching to mess around. ::cirnoshrug

So nothing regarding my interests or anything remotely good? Good day for mega man fans (i used to love mega man) shame no new harvest moon game

The only things that interested me were:
1. Strange/interesting indies (Tankrat, Toxic Commando, Covrn of the chicken foot, Stupid never dies)
2. AAA that seemed cool/interesting ('4loop' because I am a Cloververse fan and Abrams will probably put some BS about it into this game and 'Pragmata' because it just had a cool premise)
3. Pragmata because it is being developed by ex-Titanfall devs.

i'm hyped for the new mega man since 11 was one of my favorite games in the series alongside the zero games. also i just beat the pragmata demo for the 2nd time. maybe this is just because i haven't played many recent AAA titles but i do think it's pretty decent so far, i'm definitely interested in seeing more boss battles since based on the footage shown and the demo that released, they're probably gonna be the highlight.

I think I have a few opinions that many would disagree with and I don't want to start a war in the forums, so I'll just say personally I think Expedition 33 deserved the GOTY and best Game Direction Awards, but didn't need to win everything else because I feel like Game Direction encompasses all the other seven awards (besides GOTY) that it won that night.

God damn are there a lot of miserable people on the internet. Yes, the show is just a giant commerical of popular games and upcomming games, but whats wrong with that exactly? No one is forced to watch it. Personally I love this hobby so anything that celebrates it and allows me to see new games, teasers or otherwise, is a win as far as I'm concerned.

My highlight of the show was Control Resonant, expecially because we got to see some gameplay! The Divinity teaser was gnarly for being over the top, definitely set the tone of what they're aiming for.

But my surprise favorite was the coop game Orbitals. Gameplay looks like it will be something similar to Split Fiction (which was a very fun game) but what realy drew me in was the throwback 80's style anime design, which is very refreshing compared to the waifu anime that we mostly see today.

I actually thought it was a Macross game at first lol. I'm excited for it.

It's not EVO, so I usually don't watch it.
