I'm playing through Disgaea Infinite right now, but you'd probably want to play through at least the first game in the series before you start this one. Otherwise, it won't make a lot of sense.

Natively on PSP, Steins;Gate and the Infinity trilogy (Never7, Ever17, Remember11) are good Sci-Fi VNs. People say good things about AIR, Hakuoki, and Amagami as well, but I haven't read any of those.

You can also use the PSP port of VNDS to read a lot more visual novels as well.

I love this game and have a version on nearly every handheld I own.
One of my favorite parts is the lecture Makise Kurisu gives on Time Travel, where she lists the possible scientifically accurate methods. No wonder Celeb 17 got published in Sciency.
