A yakuza hitman Tetsu and his artistic younger brother Kenji kills a boss in a double cross. Police and Yakuza gangs are chasing them, so Tetsu decides they must flee in Manchuria. They are swindled of their money before they can reach their destination and take labor jobs on a tunnel project, falling in love with their new boss's sister-in-law and wife, respectively.

Directed by Seijun Suzuki a movie among the top Yakuza themed, hardships wrong turn a mixture of logic and emotion. The vibes about a fresh start and second chances are heavy but the Yakuza Code can't be overrun by them.

I am taking it easy because i don't want to spoil it, that part where they have been accepted without papers to work on the tunnel i think is the best.

The younger brother that causing a lot of troubles has a crush on the Tunnel Company Boss Wife, Tetsu wanted a new start in Manchuria but things go again wrong.

The bonds of family especially in those difficult times are strong, even sacrifice is simple.
This is it thanks for reading. Until my next thread, see you.

Other than Tokyo Drifter, Youth of the Beast, and Branded to Kill I've found Suzuki's films hard to get through. I may check this one out though. Great review regardless, and what an awesome cover art.

same level for me.

I am also not a big Seijun Suzuki fan, though personally I thought Youth of the Beast sucked. But I liked Tattoed Life. It's a more traditional ninkyo eiga (the more common type of 60's yakuza movies), and while many of those can be too formulaic, the ones that have their own stories I usually like. There are tons of other good movies in that genre btw.
