SVC CHAOS Thread

I began to appreciate the more gritty(?) artworks from Nona over the years, ESPECIALLY considering how KOF 14 and 15 look, especially 14 which even nowadays looks kinda bad.
It's a crime the way that 14 looks. It was a misstep across the board graphically when comparing to what came before. In addition, Samsho graphically looked very similar to SF4, which looked jarring for a game released in 2019.

I rarely like a game's conversion from sprites to 3D models. Marvel 3 is really the sole exception I can think of in that regard off the top of my head.

The console versions removed the "slowdowns" in the arcade version, which sounds good until you realize they removed it even in the moves that purposefully have it for extra effect, meaning the timing for things is different. Like SMK's dragon punch loop, Akuma's Messatsu Gou Shoryu, etc. Thankfully the Steam version keeps it faithful to the arcade release.
How odd - I wasn't aware of that change. That reminds me of 60fps updates to games that originally had timers tied to framerate. I think some of Resident Evil 4's re-releases suffer from this, which makes some QRT's in those games nearly impossible at higher difficulties.

Total hot take but MVC3 might be the only fighting game that manages to get away with cel-shaded graphics. It just looks downright ugly on those Arcsys anime fighters. I couldn't even watch Granblue Fantasy because it hurt my eyes, LOL.

(Well, that, and also I don't like anime fighters, xD.)

Total hot take or not, I absolutely agree with you. I'm not a fan of the arcsys style, either.

Part of it is also my inherent bias towards Capcom games, but I think I really only like +R in terms of the Arcsys fighters. I'm no different from the 08'er mentality of old, it seems.

SNK, on the other hand, has numerous games that I enjoy (namely 2002UM and 98UM) but I unfortunately have less experience playing them in any competitive capacity.

This may also be a hot take in itself, but I might even prefer the sprites of both 2002UM and SVC over KOF12/KOF13. SVC has this super unique look to the capcom side that I find very interesting, and KOF12's art can just look too anime or too buff at times.

I have a story, the first time I ever seen SNK vs. Capcom was at my local arcade venue I remember playing it only once- it happened to be the last time I ever visited that place, looking back I'm not sure why? it could have closed or other things in life came up. I thought the cabinets looked cool with the glowing blue logo.

Fast-forward a few years ago (around 2015) I use to play SVC Chaos frequently on Fightcade (before it switched over to FC2), it was one of my goto fighters at the time. My main character was Mars People, haven't played any console version didn't know he was a hidden character. My secondaries were Vega (claw), and Earthquake. Despite Vega struggling in this I took advantage of his cheap Scarlet Terror flip-kick and Rolling Crystal Flash in certain matches.

I wish I saw SVC cabinets in my day. At best I'd find KOF 97 or 2002, and that's if I find an arcade machine around.

Whenever I see people playing arcade SVC, odds are it's like Plus or Super Plus which you don't need to unlock anyone. Problem is, Geese, Zero, and Mars People lose their voice lines, lol.

And oh yeah, calling Vega a struggle is putting it mildly, LMAO. I like playing as the low tiers in this game, though (save for Hugo).
