A hack of Super Mario Bros. for the NES which combines both the first game and the sequel (SMB2 The Lost Levels) into one game, after World 8 the game continues right at the start of SMB2 The game physics are more in lime with The Lost Levels with the floatier bounce and you get to choose between Mario and Luigi at the start, so it's more similar to the sequel, this is my personal definitive way to play this game.

Slightly related, but you may wanna check this brand new Super Mario Bros project revealed two days ago, it's got all kinds of customizable features.
Ive been playing that game non-stop since it dropped. the only thing its missing is the star power's ability to give you 1-ups after running into enough enemies. but its genuinely one of the best ways to play SMB/2J/Special/ANN.

I poorly worded my original comment, but adding those changes you mentioned to this hack I think would be amazing additions, (Not that this hack already isn't amazing) but it would be giving the game more parity to the later entries while still keeping the feel of the original, while having SMB 1 & 2J under one roof.

Just to clarify, SMB Definitive kinda turns the game into SMB2J physics and all, unless the hacker implements these codes himself I doubt these hacks would be compatible, but perhaps someone can test and see for I was not successful.

Personally though, while I do like a couple of the ideas in the "SMB Tweaked" hack I don't really like most of them...
I like the one that lets you lose your power ups gradually, I like the one where if you hold Jump while bouncing on enemies you bounce higher, I like the one that makes all hidden 1-UP mushrooms work regardless of coins condition, and similarly I kinda like the one where you get a 1-UP if you touch the tip of the Flagpole instead of how SMB2J works with the timer and score counters, but not the rest in the list tbh, but that's just my personal taste.

But it's like I said, this hack pretty much converts the game into SMB2J while "adding" SMB1 levels in the beginning and making worlds A-D accessible without needing 8 stars (you still get stars though, btw) in a way it's a .nes conversion of SMB2J.

If you could combine this with SMB Tweaked, you'd have the best version

For one, this makes me feel that this could be a game reissue for Wii. as a 20th anniversary special edition exclusive for fans , instead of changing the blocks to say 25th on them. nonething else was special about it.

It vannot be definitive yet because its category says "improvement", x'd. Neither has the hack version wroten in the name rom, :'v.

It was meant to represent Super Mario Bros Deluxe for the GBC, the boxart is even designed to mimic that of the GBC game, idk if anybody noticed, also the icon has a block with text that looks like a combination of DS and DX which was an intentional design choice, I'm kinda proud of that 👉👈
Well, thanks for the tip, my friend.

Although the Romhack of the New Super Mario Bros. looks more like a Super Mario Bros. DS but without the New in the title.

I agree, I wish I had this as a kid as it is what I wished the new world would've been.

Slightly related but there's a hack of New Super Mario Bros that turns it into something like this and I was a beta tester for that one, I even designed the cover art and the game icon.

It feels like an extended version of the traditional Super Mario Bros.
