IT’S-A ME! MARIO!

Super Mario 64 is one of my favorite games to play just for the sake of playing. Exploration, different runs, speedrunning, playing little games I came up with in my head… it just inspires something in me. It’s like the video game equivalent of a childhood favorite jungle gym, and it’s aged just as gracefully. But the rust I swear makes it more charming. 64 has this weird blend of “basic Mario” theming, but filtered through the insanity of a development team having to imagine everything in 3D and CG for the very first time. The result is a unique vibe that no other game has, and it, combined with the pure fun of the game’s movement, made SM64 stay relevant for decades. I love it, and I was shocked to see no threads for the game. So, I made one! Have fun!

THIS THREAD IS FOR SUPER MARIO 64, BUT CONVERSATION ABOUT OTHER N64 MARIO GAMES IS MORE THAN WELCOME! WE LOVE ALL N64 MARIO GAMES HERE!
NO DRAMA ABOUT WHICH VERSION OF 64 IS BETTER EITHER! IF ITS SUPER MARIO 64, THEN IT’S A FRIEND.

Whats his problem? Leave me alone!
Right!? These wind up spawns of Satan are truly terrible to deal with if you slow down. But, sometimes getting tossed can be useful to perform some cool tricks… if you feel like finessing a terrifying telepuppet.

Mario 64 was groundbreaking, and a very "important" game in video game history.
I also didn't care for it that much to be honest.

In my opinion, it is super over-rated precisely because it was so groundbreaking for its time. But even at the time, I felt it had a janky camera and I never thought it was as good as the 2D Mario games. And although I just prefer 2D games in general (just my personal preference), there are much better 3D platformers out there.

Still a legendary game, though. ::peacemario

I have sank many hours into B3313, which is even more of a jungle gym than the original SM64.

Yup. It’s my favorite hack of 64. It’s so pointless to most people who play for achieving a goal, but for somebody like me who never played for objective anyway… it’s perfect.
