hi hi hi hi how are you all i haven't been around these parts in a million years

recently i was at a used book store in my home town, and when i was snooping at their media section i stumbled across something downright bizarre.. so it was two blank cd jewel cases taped together with scotch tape. inside each was a gold cd. both had "final fantasy vii" written on them, with one saying "install disc" and one saying "disc 1." i bought it immediately, obvs. initially i tested it on playstation, but it did nothing. i plan on testing it on my pc's disc drive, but haven't gotten around to it because i've been super busy (and i left it at school so i can't until the end of winter break). if anyone has any clue what this is, i'd love to hear your thoughts.

but also. what weird finds have you had while collecting games? i love this kinda stuff, i wanna read about your peculiar items !!!

It wasn't a weird item, just weird that it was being sold as it was. BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend came with a side-disc containing all the songs added to that version of the game. Pretty cool! When I went to a local small game store, I found a copy of just THAT being sold separately for like 10 bucks. Kind of an outrageous price, but I didn't know better at the time how common it was.
It's honestly not even that worth it- it only has like 7 songs or so. I want my money back, in hindsight, But I was happy in the moment so.. eh.

Finding not one, but three PC-FX games when I fully believed I would never find any (outside of getting them online).

Picked off two of them immediately. All of its games are difficult to get in person.

It's possible it was just someone's homemade set of CD-Rs from back in the day. I'd guess it was from the PC version of Final Fantasy 7. CD-ROM computer games weren't terribly difficult to pirate back then, and I've come across plenty in my own shopping.

It is also entirely possible that you have found some sort of gold master copy! That... would be a much more significant find 😯

As for me, my then-local Goodwill in Eugene, OR once had a full-sized, dual-screen Virtua Cop 2 arcade cabinet for sale. There it was, right in the middle of the store! No idea if it worked, as it wasn't plugged in... but that thing seriously loomed large. They wanted $199 for it. I don't regret not getting it (had no way of getting it home, and no room for it anywhere) but it was something to see, all right 🤩
