Stop-Motion

I've not seen enough of this style, but I do usually enjoy it when I do see it. I mainly love Wallace & Gromit, as well as other stuff from Aardman Animations.

George Pal's works (namely his Puppetoons) are possibly my all-time favorite. I remember borrowing the compilation film, "The Puppetoon Movie", and loving it. Beautifully expressive stuff!

Shaun the sheep, Wallace and Gromit and Pingu are my fave

For Movies Paranorma and Coraline (as a child Chicken Run) are my fave.

There is a recent horror movie called Stopmotion (2023) that has some very cool stop motion creatures and stuff. Its worth watching just for those, I think. I also loved how they used this technique in Evil Dead movies, like with that long neck monster, dancing corpse girl or even at the start of Evil Dead 2 where Ash is flying and spinning in the air. Also also I want to mention Gunship's Tech Noir and Tech Noir 2 music videos, that are pure stop motion/claymation goodness filled to the brim with videogame and movie references.

You reminded me of the music vide for "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by Primus. Not my favourite song in the world, but the music video is cool.

I went to the Laika exhibit that was at Mopop in Seattle a couple years back. The photos are on my phone so I don't have them handy for sharing, but they had little wings for each of their films, and lot of display cases for stuff actually used in the movies. Coraline's house, the van from Paranorman, lots of clothing test pieces, stuff like that. Really cool, I spent a couple of hours taking photos of all that stuff. Looking forward to their next one, Tom Waits does voicework in it.

Ray Harryhausen is the KING of stop-motion. And this was in the 1950's

Stop Motion is an underrated medium. Though probably because of how expensive and time consuming it is. You cannot deny that the results though.

I love anything by Laika and I'm super excited for their next picture "WildWood". Aardman always impresses and delights with careful animation and sharp writing. I need to go back and look at the history of stop motion. Mainly Ray Harryhausen and the original King Kong.
