Genesis STG Recommendations after Earthion

Hey all,

I beat Earthion on normal mode last week and it's got me in a big STG mood now. Do you guys have any recommendations for what I should play next? I've already been messing around with Thunder Force IV, Trouble Shooter, and Biohazard Battle. If you guys have any Saturn recommendations I wouldn't mind hearing them as well.

Specifically for the Saturn? Since you mention Thunder Force, maybe Blast Wind might be interesting to you. It's made by the same dev studio.

There's also this kinda odd (and gorgeous) "racing" shmup - Kingdom Grandprix - that one's also definitely worth a look.

Haha, I should have said both Genesis and Saturn.

I'll definitely take a look at Blast Wind. And it's funny that you mention Kingdom Grandprix! I was actually trying that one out earlier after I got Mednafen working. That definitely is an interesting little game. I don't understand the mechanics too well but those character designs and music are wonderful

I would recommend Hyper Duel since you mention thunder force. Made by the same studio and i love it

i mean, if you are in the mood for classic style STGs, all i can think of is Darius Gaiden on the saturn

If you're interested in Saturn shmups/shooters/stgs look up "Shmup Junkie" on youtube. His channel has videos dedicated to entire stg library's on various consoles. The closest game besides Thunderforce I can think of that's like Earthion is "Greylancer" for the sega gensis, set the secondary weapon to auto before you start(its superior to all the other options). I believe there's an English translation too available on this site. Steel Empire is also a pretty good game, the second level is annoying but after that its really enjoyable with the massive bosses the art/design and the gameplay is pretty solid as well.
