Splatoon is now 10 years old!

Eh, when you see Cyberpunk 2077 on the base Xbox One and PlayStation 4 there's something absolutely wrong that has happened. In general most games were optional but it was clear that some would get a better experience with these refresh.

The DSi also had some exclusives (either DSiWare or those games requiring the use of the camera) but these were only a few.

Anyway, the Wii U's commercial failure was the main reason why they had to urgently make that new console in the same gen (although a gen is barely a conventional thing since the games of the early PS360 and late PS360 were almost like a full gen of difference).

Anyway, back to Splatoon: the series had an inspiration from Mario Sunshine?
But without those mid-generation refreshes, there would've been no other option, you would've been stuck with consoles that weren't powerful enough to play Cyberpunk the way it's meant to be played. But at least you can still play it if you have no other options. I'm all for choice. I bought a PS5 Pro. Did I need it? No, not really. It hasn't been as impactful as Xbox One X and PS4 Pro were, however I'm happy to have it. That said, $780 for one with the disc drive was ridiculous. Was it worth that? Probably not. Will some games look and run better on it? Yes. Will people still be perfectly fine with their base model PS5? Yeah. It's not a requirement, you can still enjoy the same games.

I skipped the whole DSi thing. I have checked out the DSi games that I missed out on my modded 3DS, though. After trying some of them, I can't say I missed out on much.

I still think the Wii U could've been a success. It seemed like Nintendo didn't try hard enough with it. They didn't even drop the price. Same could be said with Sony and the Vita at the time. Sony just cut off first-party support within 2-3 years and relied on third parties to supply it with games. Vita is easily the most disappointed I've been with a system the last 20+ years. After Sony cut first-party support, it was mostly visual novels and dungeon crawlers.

Yeah… ow.

When this game came out, I was 11. I was just budding as a retro gamer, watching on as the 8-bit generation of retro gamers dominated the conversation. I wasn’t giving much thought to my Wii U at the time, but my dad was, and he loved this game. This series, really. Whenever I think of Splatoon, I remember my dad, and how much I cherish having him around. He won’t be forever, but I’ll always have Splatoon as a special thing to remember him with.

The big issue is that back in the 7th gen you still saw improvement on games so that we saw impressive end of life.

Sure, even the N64 had the Expansion Kit for end life games and the Wii had the Wii Motion Plus for some of the more advanced motion control games but at the end of the day the consoles stayed the same.

The DSi had nice DSiware games but you didn't miss much by not buying one.

The Wii U was more like a Wii 1.5 with HD included and aside from the bad marketing and bad naming it's still a console that missed the mark with its tablet pad gimmick.

Vita was killed by Sony themselves as I heard.
