Do you play older games with open source engines? I tried OPENMW and it works great on steamdeck.
 
If the source port is stable and basically complete then it's my preferred method. They're less of a pain to get running and usually have improvements and bug fixes. I've used a few of them.
Arx Libertatis, Crispy Doom, DevilutionX, OpenRCT, Raze, TRX, vkQuake, Ship of Harkinian.
 
people have ported the sm64 to a surprising amount of consoles so that's neat.
 
a bunch, GZDoom, Yamagi Quake II, the Force Engine, OpenJKDF2, Shockolate, ECWolf, etc
 
i ravage openttd when drunk, it's like my warm blanket on a cold friday night...
