Aight the Switch 2 is dropping this year and Xbox & Sony have plans to release their Handhelds to enter the race, do you think they got a chance ? When something like Steam deck or rog ally already exist beside the switch, what will make them worth the money ? For me, I have plans for both companies.... if any director from both companies somehow is reading this, TAKE NOTES!

For Xbox

easy and simple, be that silver lining between PC and Xbox, dual boot to both softwares work on more backward compatibility for XBOX 360 GAMES, make it a cool ecosystem that feel like the go to option always, called something like... Xbox Go ? invest in some indie studios to make you games instead of all those slop AAA thats good enough for me to consider buying it

Sony...

The PSP was ahead of its time for 2 reasons, large library of games.... and how simple and PORTABLE it is
it was like having PS1&ps2 in one small package YOU CANT BEAT THAT....Unless.... make another psp that plays PS1,2,3,4 Natively with support to achievements and remasters and all that jazz, thats the only thing Sony gotta do and i promise you they will compete easily with nintendo,

I think both need to bow out and try to focus more on software and follow more SEGA's model to keep the lights on with what's going on in current market. Let Nintendo deal with breaking into current market, study it and then just focus on trying to build a new console or maybe dip toes into furthering VR technology and products as Nintendo isn't going that route. Both current consoles need more support and if they want to continue to make money as they tinker for the next big thing and now people are trying to save so more deals to inflate sales or just saving money now should be the priority. The handheld market is pretty hot now so there's more than Nintendo to contend with, Odin, Steamdeck, Rog Ally why not just sit this one out for a bit?

I’m honestly surprised that Xbox took a very long time to consider entering the handheld market. You’d think the major success of the Nintendo DS and the PSP would convince Xbox to make their own handheld device.

If they can make glassesfree 3D screen with VR than maybe, otherwise too late ingame without system exclusives.
Xbox handheld will be custom Asus made, so nothing special FAIL.
Sony didnt learn from their lastest Handheld streamer FAIL hard.

I hope we get another era of great handhelds with these, previously nintendo historically had amazing handhelds, sony had some phenomenal ones with the psp and psvita, psvita was unsuccessful mainly due to a poor library of games but what it did have was great, but now? We have the switch and switch 2, which are only part handheld, and can't fit in a pocket, the steamdeck which can't fit in a pocket either but its also incredibly heavy along with that so good luck actually using it portably, the steamdeck needs to be in a backpack or dedicated carrying case, so it's as portable to me as a laptop; i view it as a good gaming laptop with a game controller built in.

What we need is this:
A handheld with good specs (doesn't have to be amazing but logically has to be better than switch 1 to compete)
that fits in a pocket
has a good battery life
a good game library
and cool features/gimmicks to make it worth picking up if you already have good handhelds (historically most great handhelds have had a gimmick, theres some nasty memories attached to the word "gimmick" but think about it,
a good gimmick sets apart a console and allows for alot of really unique experiences, the DSes sold themselves on dual screens and touch screens which let people make alot of great puzzle games; ace attorney, ghost trick, hotel dusk, professor layton, i could go on.
the psvita's touch screen was less special at the time but there were still some games that made good use of it, touch screens are now ubiquitous and sadly that lead to all of their cool features being ironed out for pure functionality, which is why we need something new to innovate in the way people control games)

I'm hoping any new xbox and sony handhelds will meet this criteria; but they'll probably follow in the footsteps of the switch 2 and steamdeck, but the main problems with those are that they try to balance power and portability, which is always a losing battle because there's a reason computers are the size they are for a reason.

however, even if they arent that good, as long as they're cheaper than the switch 2 they'll probably still make more money, i pray they are. i don't want to spend 70-80 dollars per game. and sony making handhelds again would be really cool, maybe we could get a new gravity rush game and a new project diva.

It all depends on the price, and their first party support. But mainly the price at this point. If it's around like $299, they have a good chance of succeeding. If it's like $599 or above, which one of them may likely be, no.

What I like about the PSP was the portable versions of big PS2 games, there were a lot of franchises that changed enough in their games to make them enjoyable on the go (because there are a lot of big games that aren't suitable for playing at short bursts on your phone or handheld). There were also a lot of proto-indie games and such.
As for an Xbox handheld, I doubt it would sell more than the steam deck. I think their consoles are just a cheaper alternative to gaming pcs.

Personally, I'm just happy that Vert is finally going to get that little sister she's always wanted.

xbox's handheld can only succeed if they make it backward compatible with 360 and og xbox games, otherwise it's just another steam deck clone
