More about it: https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_3_(promotional_cartridge)
Damn, thanks for confirming that at least. Hopefully a working version turns up, I feel like the novelty of this one is lost a bit if I just emulate it hahControls didn't work on real hardware when tested with a burned EPROM and a PCB as well.
Controls didn't work on real hardware when tested with a burned EPROM and a PCB as well.Oh MAN I've looked for this one for so long let's GOOOOOO
Update: On a flashcart on hardware it loads into the menu, but doesn't seem to respond to any controls
The reason that I’m confused is because the wiki says it’s original. It’s not that I doubt you, I’m just curious what the backstory is behind this game. Like someone recreated the official promotional cart? It's a homebrew officially released, made by one dude. (Even though it's bit that other homebrew recreating this rom)

This article is about a special promotion cartridge. For other uses, see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (disambiguation).
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a special promotional cartridge created for the Sega Genesis by Paramount Pictures to promote the then-upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film.
The cartridge was distributed to content creators on 21 November 2024, to promote the film and celebrate the release of advance tickets on 25 November 2024. Along with being a fully functional Sega Genesis game, the cartridge also includes a cheat code that, when entered, revealed the release date for the final trailer. As a result, this marked the first time since Sonic 3D Blast (1996) that an official Sonic entry for the system was released.
The cartridge was later available to win as one of the 15 prizes for the 12 Hours of Sonic 3 Giveaway.
Thank you for the Trick Input Contribution.Don't forget about the cheat code during the bike race to unlock the trailer screen.

Thanks, I didn't know about this, odd they used the Sonic 3 code instead of the Sonic & Knuckles one.Don't forget about the cheat code during the bike race to unlock the trailer screen.

It's official, not sure why Teone labeled it as homebrew.According to the Wiki, this is an official promotional cartridge. Is it really homebrew? Did I miss something?
Still cool either way.
Is subjective but I'm not a fan of the US coverart for Sonic, maybe because I grew up with the Japanese boxart, I just don't like mohawk Sonic design, same thing with Mega Man, but is personal.I never understood why Paramount did not used the Sonic 3 US Genesis cover as a teaser poster. You would have Sonic in the front with a 3 pose, Knuckles gliding, tails hovering, Robotnik and Gerald on the egg mobile angry, and a mysterious figure behind the bushes revealing its eyes who is clearly Shadow.
Hey, it would be Epic but as the Dreamcast was a commercial failure in all regions (Also because of the arrival of the Competition) even though it was an advanced console for the time and also that Sega lost the support of the Dreamcast for Long Time and they had no choice but to release the promo of the 3rd Sonic Movie in Physical Format on the best-selling/popular Sega Console which is on the Genesis/Mega Drive (Because it was a commercial success in the West but a failure in Japan).Would have been more based if they made it as a CD readable by the Dreamcast since the movie features Shadow.
