Gameplay wise it still plays like the Master System version, it just looks and sounds different.

I really like this fan remake, ngl, but I do have a couple of issues, it lacks momentum and you can't roll off a slope, forcing the developer to change the level design, it also has a gimmicky level of a vehicle auto scroller, which is the case of his remakes in general, not really a big fan of that, I wish they included Amy to the roaster too, and I personally prefer the Game Gear level layout than the Master System, I only say this because I really like it if it's not for these few details, with some polish it has the potential to be the definitive version of the game.

Cool but the differences in the Master System version are what makes it appealing to me. I don’t see the point of making it look more like the Genesis/MD version.

This Sonic 1 Romhack with Mega Drive/Genesis Assets is quite good if we talk about emulation by the aspect ratio (4:3 or 31:24 if you ignore the left color bar on the Screen) but not so much in the Original Hardware by the aspect ratio (4:3 or 31:24 with Color Bars in Top/Bottom on the Screen) even if backwards compatible with the Master System Converter.
