Sonic Battle Retranslated - SHC2025 Edition By Kirbysmith Source: https://shc.zone/entries/contest2025/1332 Sonic Battle is a commonly overlooked gem in the Sonic series, featuring fun character interactions, rich characterization, a compelling story that builds upon Shadow’s backstory and Sonic lore as a whole, and a hectic yet fun battle system. Unfortunately, the official localization is fraught with translation errors, typos, inaccuracies, awkward phrasing, minor censorship, and various liberties made to the script that mess with the tone and intent of the original Japanese dialogue. In the words of Japanese translator and Sonic fan, Windii Gaylord: “a good story that was sadly mangled by the official […]

I still think this game is trash. So many repetitive battles. I really hate how you have to fight the same character TWICE. Also some battles in this game are pure bullshit. Like the Knuckles bar fight and the battles in Cream’s story.

xenoblade and fire emblem games need retranslations too, any game touched by the trash localizers of noa really.

voy a callarle la boca a pharia, el supuesto salvador y nerd de sonic, despues de leer esto

uh... what did they do to sonic adventure 2's story? now i'm REALLY curious about that.

i've already played through sonic battle to 100% so it's gonna be interesting to replay it, with japanese version voices too (cause why not)

on another note, watching sonic prime in japanese dub is an experience worth watching it twice (english and japanese)
I'm curious about this too! Most I know is some obviously weirdly translated lines here and there, like the awkward "So that's... Chaos Control?" line with Biolizard that doesn't make any sense, or Tails responding to Eggman actually baring his heart and talking about his grandfather with "haha, we all did it together!" lol

The question is whether the retranslation of the game from Japanese to English also applies to the other languages of the game such as French, German, Spanish and Italian or only applies to English? only because Sonic Battle has multi-language in the American & European versions of the game.

IDK what's going on, I tried all 3 roms and the game is japanese for me.

EDIT: I found out I was running an older version of Visual Boy Advance, which runs all these ROMs in japanese for some weird reason. It works fine on the latest Visual Boy Advance-M.
