So recently I've been playing Dead Island 2 and i love it. It's really fun and I love exploring but during one exploration I felt scared

In one of the house in the first area I found this painting on a wall. Not only it creeped me but I felt watched, then i notice that it's eyes followed me in the stairs. Just to say maybe it was all suggestions but it creeped me a lot

The mannequin room in Silent Hill 3, in this room you expect for something to happen but you find only silence until you get the katana and you hear a scream, the first time it caught off guard 😅

I don't remember which, but there's a Castlevania with a similar thing. I think it's a lady's face in the painting, and when you walk by, the eyes move. I don't know if it scared me but I did go, "don't look at me" as I walked by?

There is that old shitty game called Bloodline. Not Vampire Masquerade, different game. Hit detection and enemy spawn(behind your back, respwan after couple of minutes) was so ass but that only halve of a picture. You couldn't leave an area till you solve a puzzle and it took me a while to figure out what to do. I genuinely feared that I'll take too much time figuring out a puzzle, because ammo is limited and melee is shite.

The merchant from Re4. No, really.

That Goddamn Locker Jumpscare in Silent Hill, there is literally nothing, yeah, say that to my controller that got propelled toward my lightbulb (I was 8, so it barely lifted)

In a more mundane way, Sonny's final call, even when revealed as a villan, he was relatively calm, it's time for the final mission and you get this call

Speaking of Silent Hill 3, there's that room with a mirror where everything slowly gets distorted, first the reflection then the whole room gets red like blood. And at some point your hear a sound that gets louder with time too. I swear, i never felt an anxiety so intense as that when playing a horror game before.

I really liked how unsettling this was in Silent Hill 3. I wonder if there have been other instances where a Silent Hill game has done something similar

In SH 4, there are the hauntings in the protagonist apartment that are unsettling as well

I was always really afraid of long hallways, especially if they were dark, and ESPECIALLY if you couldn't see the end, because I was always terrified something was gonna pop out and kill me. I hate that kind of anticipation.

Places like pic related. It has no function, and is essentially just a wall. It just feels so ominous. Like, why WOULDN'T there be a giant worm or something lurking in the darkness?

First time I went through that Scarecrow section in Batman Arkham Asylum I thought
I was gonna be a real life creepypasta victim

This tread just unlocked a memory for me.
When I was playing MGS4 for the first time and just defeated Crying Wolf, I wanted to go take a look around to see if there were any thing i missed but the place of the boss fight was covered in snow and i couldn't see anything and there were all these sounds of wolves howling in the background as i was walking in low visibility. I knew this was not a horror game but I felt a little bit scared and went trough the normal path right after.
