I don't want this to sound harsh, but I don't understand the game at all. Not from a story or gameplay perspective. On a more wider scale- just the general appeal of it.
The gameplay is so average. Not that turn-based JRPGs have ever excelled at revolutionary gameplay or anything, and I will give them kudos for trying to be different by making the movement and combo system more tactical than some. But it's absurdly easy, and near the end game, it boils down to a format of
- Story event, boss, grind. Story event, boss, grind.
Now, all turn-based games typically fall into that, but HDN really hits the hardest there.
The story too. Now I ain't no perfect writer, believe me. But so much of this meta dialogue really feels condescending. I know that games published by NIS America tend to lean more that way- and I could talk a whole lot more about Disgaea. That's its own eventual thread though.
The characters feel boringly one-note, villains and heroes. The designs are good! Nisa is by far my favorite. But when they talk it feels worse.
None of this is offensively bad. In fact, I wouldn't call it bad at all. It's just so- okay.
My question here is- what am I missing, Hyperdimension Neptunia fans? I know the series has a lot of games, so maybe I'm better off playing another. Which I'm happy to do, I WANT to like it since my buddy does. What am I missing?
