So, what is going to be the Ethos of this forum?

I can't remember for how many years I've been using CDRomance, so I think It's awesome to finally be able to connect with other fellow romancers(?
But I had awful experiences in the other gaming forums over the years (Resetera, Neogaf, RpgCodex, among others), because earlier than you expect you end up attracting tourists, people that love to argue in bad faith, politics, toxic behaviour, etc.

Is there rules or a plan to avoid that?
I just want to talk about weird games and chill

There are rules against being an arse, so I think those should suffice? There's also a complete ban on controversial topics, which definitely helps.

There are rules but the best you can do is to just ignore them if they try to beef with you personally. You are not forced to reply or answer, regardless of how standish or dumb the comment is.

I think that everything should remain chill and cozy for everyone here, what I hope for the most is that people don't bring over real life issues to the board. I just want to talk about videogames for pete's sake!
So yeah preferably a crowd unlike that of the sites you listed and the toxic people they foster.

You guys have to take into account the amount of people willing to mess up a place. Right now we have 838 members, and i haven't seen more than 20 members online when i check the forums, sometimes it's just me and some guests. There are more lurkers than active posters. Due to the small amount of people conected at any given time, there is an astronomically low chance that one of that people is a trouble maker looking to kill time in a random forum about old games.

Right now, the forum is in its infancy, there are no obvious cliques formed, mods are not biased in favour of anything or anyone, however, that may change with time as more people joins but that probably won't happen since there are other more popular forums out there, such as the ones mentioned, and forums are things of the past, people get their game discussion and content from discord, youtube and other websites.

As i see it, the only way this forum becomes obnoxious is if it gets targeted by a big group of people for whatever reason.

Nobody here has been toxic so far. People just sorta pop in to talk about cool stuff. It's like the early internet.

NeoGaf is bad today, and they are all adults in there. They had to get rid of the politics board. Good call.

Adults tend to be smarter than fighting over politics and religion on a gaming forum (unless it's Twitter XD).

well in my opinion straight up banning then is dumb, like you have not that much faith in the people to behave like adults, and besides lots of sites have religion and politics sections quarantined, and the sites works fine, in fact some cool discusions came out of those places.
after all, its all about variety in life, in my opinion.

I respect your opinion, I just don't see that as being beneficial to this particular style of site.

In fact, the first-ever forum I had ever joined bled members like crazy because it allowed such topics to be discussed. My 12K post count seems wasted now because I REALLY don't wanna go back there as a result.

Well I can provide some words of comfort if need be. Now, some points I’ll mention aren’t guaranteed to stay true forever so…
This forum is kinda “hidden”, lets say. Not to say resetera didn’t already do this, given that your account can’t have a “school” email domain like gmail. But that’s not a huge hurdle anyways.

Some forums need to “approve” your account but from my experiences those never respond back which is frankly terrible.

I like how it’s done here. First, you need to even know RGT exists at all. Then you need an account to access the library. Then you need to find the separate tap to access the forums themselves. I’d say these “layers” will filter out a lot of folks xD.

I'd close the blinds on every room I was in, can you imagine? Like I was such a hotly debated topic. Life got a lot easier when I stopped carrying persecution that was never on my shoulders.

This forum would probably stay relaxed if we don't all assume the worst of each other.

It'll also be worth noting that this is the internet, so we can't actually HEAR what others are saying (nor their intent). We are stuck with reading each other and then drawing conclusions from it. Jokes and playful banter can be lost in the way quite easily.
