Also, focus on breathing through your mouth a few times and letting out a few proper exhales. I feel weird doing it as I almost always breathe through my nose, but I find it helps to do it at keast a couple of times whilst I'm getting comfortable.

Extra chemicals? What are the main ones, steroids? ::winkfelix

I'm also taking sertraline so I can't really distinguish which one gives the side effects, but if it's of any use, I haven't:

-had any night terrors like u
-woke up in the middle of the night
-felt tired during the day
-have concentration issues

Let's hope the erectile dysfunction isn't a side effect from Risperidone!
Nah steroids fall into the extra chemicals category too , just the chemicals in your body the natural ones ey I didn't memorize each one of them to recite ::smirk1

I mean if I don't suffer from a medical condition that prevents me from sleeping like some fellas here why take medicine that has side effects? That causes me to buy another medicine to solve the first and it goes on and on? Nope if pills are needed fine if not why bother?

I cant insert my hand into the phone and hand shake like that so this will do.

Any sleep is better than no sleep. As for how to sleep better I might not the best person to ask because I'm one of those unfortunate people that needs prescription medication to sleep. Home remedies do little to nothing. That being said the only things I can think of that don't involve seeing a doctor are...
-magnesium (either supplements or oil)
-chamomile
-little to no sugar and caffeine before bed
-melatonin (if that works for you)

There's also technically sleeping at the same time every day but I understand that can be near impossible for people with chronic sleep issues.

I just cry from the frustration until i get tired and fall asleep. Sometimes it works while other times i just stay awake but now i'm sad and my eyes are all red.

Too strong of a method for mere mortals.

Jerk off /j

Rozerem usually does the trick.

Been a insomniac all my life.
While it's not a silver bullet, try taking a magnesium supplement before bed, low magnesium levels is a common cause of insomnia.

No matter what time I go to sleep, I would always wake up at 05:00 to 05:15 without fail, every single day.
Can't physically sleep again after that, even if I'm still drowsy and tired, I can push it until 06:30 at most. After that my body literally went "BOI, GET YO ASS UP NOW!", any further attempt to sleep and my body will send a painful sting from my neck to the back of the head.

That's your body's natural cicadian rhythm, same happens to me around 9am.

Far from a rare problem. What do you do about it? What helps you sleep better and more consistently?

Should I just stay up all night or should I get like 2-3 hours? I honestly don't know what's better.
i have struggled with sleep my whole life, exercise is really important and helps me a ton! Consider talking to a doctor about melatonin that also helped personally. Not sure if you use recreational drugs but i wouldn't recommend them for sleep as even though you might fall asleep faster which is tempting, it really messes with your quality of sleep. A nice warm bath works wonders for me too. General anxiety can also play a major roll in you sleep. So again perhaps look into anti-depressants if ur into that sorta thing. I have to say though for me it really helped. im autistic and am very sensitive about noise in particular so i wear headphones to bed, aware that doesn't apply to every one. As a last resort i would consider putting on some tv show that you dont really care about. hope ya sleep gets better and good luck! a lack of sleep is a horrible cycle but it can be broken!

I generally take one 5mg Melatonin capsule half an hour-ish before bed. I don't think it's the best habit, but I haven't been to a doctor in many years so I have no idea if a medication would be more effective. I can nap pretty much anywhere during the day, but at night I struggle mightily to sleep. The melatonin helps, as does putting on a youtube video of something entertaining and lighthearted that I've seen before and thus won't want to stay up to listen to. Angry Video Game Nerd or longform videos like Grimbeard are usually what I go for. Pretty much whatever keeps me from thinking about things, at that point I struggle to sleep. If I happen to think about my own mortality, I get crazy anxiety and it takes me a while to be able to sleep, though it's been like that since I was little.

I don't think screens are good either but I sometimes will play a turn-based game or something slow and kinda boring. Either an RPG on my TV with the brightness all the way down or a dungeon crawler like Etrian Odyssey on my 3DS with the brightness also down all the way. I have a sort of clamp thing on my bedframe with an arm that comes down overhead and can hold my Switch in place, sometimes I'll play something like Loop Hero on that. Then I can just look overhead to play and when sleepy I can just use one of the joycons already at my side to turn it off and then just close my eyes.

It's always better to sleep. Even if it's just for 1 hour. It helps to go sleep at the same time every day, not looking at a screen for at least an hour before going to bed and not eating for 3 hours before going to bed. Reading is also a nice trick to make your eyes more tired. There's also a few other things like some specific teas and breathing exercises that help, but in my experience, the thing that helps the most is to learn to not give a fuck, so there's no anxiety tied to sleeping.

sleep for 3 hours and you're fucked up the entire day. i don't know why but i keep falling back into that, staying up then going out on 2 or 3 hours of sleep, and i'm dead the entire time. keep telling myself to fix my sleep schedule

There are lots of articles at the internet from verified doctors regarding sleep issues. Instead of depending on pills and shit (which is anything but healthy) here are some of the most common, natural ways to deal with sleep issues:
- Avoid eating late at night. And prefer eating lightly for dinner if possible. And make sure it's been 3-4 hours or more when you last ate before going to sleep.
- At night avoid certain drinks and foods that affect negatively your sleep. Look at related articles about what kind of drinks and food exactly you have to avoid.
- Exercise at daily basis and have walks during daytime.
- Avoid doing stuff like watching tv late at night. Watching tv is supposed to make you sleep but instead it has the opposite effect.
- If possible avoid eating if you're not actually hungry. People often eat while they're not hungry because of emotional oveating (look at the internet for more details about emotional overeating). Among others emotional overeating affects negatively our sleep.
- Reduce drastically the time you waste at internet, mobile phone etc. They're one of the most common causes of sleep issues in modern era. Internet, like many other things in life, is good only with moderation.

As about sleeping hours, it's common knowledge that adults need at least 8 hours of daily sleep and you get your health fucked if you only sleep for a few hours.

Outdoor physical activity can help in so many situations, including issues related to our sleep. There are quite a few people who practice it in the evening, and this is wrong, as sports produce endorphins that don't help with sleep. The best time, at least for me, is in the morning before going to work. I suffered from chronic insomnia when I was a boy because I played a lot at night until late. Now there are even more dangerous tools, which are smartphones and tablets. As for television, that always makes you sleepy, especially when there is something endlessly boring....

yeah exercise is key. not a fan of melatonin personally. cannabis (indica) can be really helpful especially for catching up on lost sleep. I've had positive results with german chamomile tea, valerian root in various forms, and lavender essential oil rubbed on the body. if the mind is too active I would suggest meditating. reading a book right before sleep can help as well.
