Since I heard the news that Myrient will be shut down, is there any website alternates to Myrient.

Since I heard Myrient is closing down after March, which other alternate trustworthy websites is for game presevation, because so far, CDromance(AKA the Repo) and Vimm's lair is the best and most trustworthy i been using so far and never had any issues, although i prefer this one since it downloaded games much faster and smoother.

Well you still got Archive org and my abandonware which I use over the past 10-15 years. Not sure what sites would be good for Wii and PS3 and 3ds titles which is what I love with Myrient.

Honestly just wait a while and a new site will pop up. I can all my time on internet sense 1990s I can say websites comes and goes.

Back in the day I use to get all my roms from EmuParadise and other sites I can´t remember the names of and some of them still around but not as good and some been gone for years.

Abandonware sites used to be great back in the day however now most of the sites wont offer the ass old
MS-DOS versions of certain relatively well known games just because there is a Non DOS version or upgraded/widows version available for sale on steam or gog. I'm in support of anyone wanting to play the new versions but this is ridiculous.

Check CNN. There shutting down by the end of the month. So grab what you can. Something about no funding and costs

Meanwhile, Frank Cifaldi has done more for actual game preservation (read: not out here dry begging for places to pirate roms for their personal collection) than everyone in this forum combined. But sure, pluck out one line that supports your axe to grind with LRG.

surely the corporations that abuse and change copyright law, having extended it beyond it's original purpose will allow Mr. Cifaldi to keep preserving them and allowing the public to gain access to gaming history.

It's not like they have explicitly stated that they want old games to disappear so they can re-sell it to the cattle.

a couple million romsets in circulation is the only way to preserve gaming. No amount of corpo bootlicking is going to change that.

Very upbeat worldview you've got there. I agree that there should be a handful of full sets of backups around, but that's not the goal of... let's call it 99.9% of anyone on an emulation forum ever. The Myrient guy doesn't even have enough space to preserve everything, so the notion that a kid from the sticks asking about Pokemon roms for his temu handheld somehow has the same goal in mind, is laughable. ::cirnoshrug

If you're actually interested in legit game preservation, https://gamehistory.org/
Does this actually have video games or is it just a museum-type of thing? Because video games are primarily made to be played, not "preserved" like insects in amber.

I've been thinking that people should just start releasing games they don't want or do anything with into the public domain, and let everyone else have a go at them.

And I honestly think that - regardless of one's feelings about piracy - video game emulation has done more to preserve games than corporations or retro game scalpers on Amazon.

Anyway, I'm off topic. Also, sorry, bjork - I wasn't challenging you or anything; I was just genuinely curious.

laughable is you posting rage-bait every post you make.

The goal is not their begging. Just the fact that there's a romset on someone's device means that even if every other machine were to fail, there's still a copy floating around that will someday recirculate.
What people don't seem to understand is that preservation doesn't require specific intent.
Most lost media gets found on random drives, floppies and cd's from yard sales and ebay listings when someone starts cleaning their attic.

Edit:

To add, there's no point to the supposed preservation of games if noone is allowed to play them.
As long as preservationists have to bend to the will of corporations that actively want to destroy their own legacy, so they can re-make and sell it to you, then we won't be allowed to touch the past.

Libraries would never get invented these days because corpos despise freedom.
What makes you think a game library will fly?

They preserve materials and also source code, but also help in unearthing unreleased or lost projects, this sort of thing. They recently had a hand in recovering 100 Sega Channel roms, which they then shared via Gaming Alexandria. Iirc they've also worked with Hidden Palace on some things too, though offhand the exact titles escape me. Just today, they apparently put at least a temporary stop to the guy being doing all the takedowns over any content involving Cookie's Bustle. The point is, they're doing the work to get actual content out there, they're not joe blow meandering onto a forum looking for PSP roms or whatever.
Also, I agree with bold entirely. I just think a poster framing their piracy as some noble cause to ensure the world never goes without a copy of Revenge of the Gator for Game Boy, is wholly disingenous.

Lol lmao even

Some of the stuff on this site is only here because of the work they did, but ok I guess.

They've actively attempted to get changes to support things like private servers for defunct games, alter copyright law in regard to digital preservation, and you're correct in saying that big money got in the way. But that doesn't invalidate their work, because what if they're successful one day? Seems like a better path than hoping User1234 on some rando forum has downloaded an entire NES romset or whatever.
