Do you know what "f" means in "Silent Hill f"? It means "fake" because this shit ain't Silent Hill at all, it's more like 3D version of generic 2D horror games on PS1 and whatnot lol.

I kept getting Siren or Fatal Frame vibes myself. I saw some headline about someone involved saying they're "taking the series back to Japan" but the series was never about Japan, and the setting just makes it feel like an entirely different game being bundled with the name.

Ya was just about to say, this game feels more like Siren than Silent Hill. I wouldn't say that's a bad thing though. SH1 and the Siren series was directed and written by Keiichiro Toyama so there is some connection. Honestly I'd probably be more excited if this was just called Siren 3. I love those games.

It's not a bad thing but as you said, it'd probably be more exciting and generate far less apprehension if they'd just called it Siren 3. Or something else. Calling it Silent Hill conjures expectations and established feelings from decades of existing material.

Weighing whether to buy it here during my stay in Japan or not. It's supposedly also playable in English with the NTSC-J version. Kinda wish they had an alternative cover though.

The Siren games were great and so the fact that this game resembles that series far more than Silent Hill isn't much of an issue in my mind.

Silent Hill as a series is defined most by its merging of Japanese horror sensibilities with a decidedly American setting and the unique feel and atmosphere that odd cultural combination creates. So this notion of the series "going back to its roots" or whatever by changing the setting to Japan is plain nonsense.
That said, I am definitely cautiously interested - what I've seen looks good to me, trypophobia be damned.

I thought the SH2 Remake got really grating after a while with how combat-focused it was, considering its punchout-style combat system was extremely limited and repetitive. In that regard the misplaced Soulslike elements might actually be beneficial - if there's more to the combat as such, maybe it won't get annoying as quickly? At least I hope so.

I hope it's good. I don't believe it looks good. My wife wants to give it a serious try. I do not want to pay money for it. I think at the very least if it's not a download then we'll find a streamer to watch a full playthrough.
I'm really not into the whole Japanese highschool thing, and I'm not into the setting considering it's supposed to be Silent Hill and not Fatal Frame or Siren. Also the gameplay and horror elements do not look up to the standards of Siren either.
I thought Silent Hill 2Remake by big bloobs was a fun playthrough. I do not think it's the definitive way to play Silent Hill 2, but it's still worth playing.

IDK about these games, they look like generic Japanese horror games in 3D like Clock Tower and Twilight Syndrome series.

And it turns out they have 3D games too:

These shits are generic of generic shit to even keep track of and memorize because they all look the same to me lol. It's just Japan has so much generic urban horror legends and it's very popular among school kids, that's why such horror genre is so generic of generic Japanese games for me that I thought its popularity died out for how boring it got long time ago lol.

Cheryl? Is that Cheryl? Where are you going? Hey wait! Stop! Please! I'm so alone... Just stop already! ... Huh, comment. What's wrong with this comment? *Glass shatters* Cheryl! You came back! Why are you pecking me? Hey wait! Stop! How do you feel? Like I've been run over by... Nevermind. This comment is officially over with. You can thank me later for the confusion.
