It actually originates from Marathon as the symbol of the overall game. But it's in every Halo game Bungie made and it represents multiple things there. And I think it's in Destiny as well. The second one is the symbol of the Marker from Dead Space. It's this alien hivemind that causes the outbreak in that game and it can control the minds of any organism. I think the symbol really works with the idea that there is a religion in game that worships this marker called Unitology. The symbol has that religious touch to it where it's very simple and clean, while still holding that dread that Isaac and the Player have when noticing it everywhere.
