My dad and I like an anime called Mashle and he suggested that I should also watch Harry Potter since it's similar to it, but the Harry Potter creator is transphobic so idk.

If you're expecting something rich like Lord of the Rings then no.

But if it something that you want to get a kick out of i'd say Shit's Fine 'nuff said, if you get into it, it'll be fun.

I mean, its ok overall, the earlier movies are more fun and whimsical, while the later ones are very try hard. I haven't read the books cause I don't care.

It was what the fantasy genre was for a while, and it has had a big influence (for good and for ill) in the genre, so it is worth watching just for how influential it is.

I mean yeah, If you're one of those people that likes nitpicking world building elements, you'll find that the Potter universe is broken af.

It's a rich setting, just not in that way. You have to embrace the exaggeration that it is. I find the later ones weaker because they don't have the fun and whimsical aspect @LiberoVulpes mentioned, and without that, they doesn't have much to offer by today standards.

you must consult with PS1 Hagrid first.

Well, I've read the books before the author started her crusade and I'll be frank to you: I found them to be very boring. I can't remember what happened! They're such nothingburgers. I couldn't finish the sixth book because nothing interesting happened. At least Twilight made me angry and I remember what happened in the book before I deleted the file... I felt nothing for HP at all.

then why did you mention it. most people don't care about the creator of an intellectual property; unless they interfere with the property, like george lucas.
most people just judge a product based on the product itself.
i've read the books; not bad. the movies are a bit inconsistent with the, filming? i'm not sure how to word it. not bad either.
i'd say start with the first book/movie/game and go from there.

One thing that bothers my is that the earlier movies shows you one million crazy possibilities for magic, while when actual combat starts to happen in the later ones it resorts to simply shooting magic sparks at each other. Might as well in fact just get a gun at this point.

I don't dislike simple magic powers. After all, as Carrie Fernandez all I do is shoot magic orbs all day. But that's not what I signed up for with Harry Potter. And even if I did they're still quite boring there most of the time.

Christopher Columbus, who directed Home Alone, teamed up with a genius musician to make a visually interesting movie with a distinct soundtrack.

The music for the Harry Potter film series was composed by several notable composers. John Williams composed the scores for the first three films: "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," and "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."

Why Did Chris Columbus Leave the Harry Potter Films?

After stepping away from the Harry Potter series as director after Chamber of Secrets, Columbus served as executive producer of the third movie, Prisoner of Azkaban, before leaving the wizarding world altogether.

According to a November 2011 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Columbus stepped down because he was "emotionally and physically exhausted."

If you have not experience Harry Potter already I would not suggest you spend time immersing yourself in the media world of Warner Bros. IP.

I would say that listening to the John Williams sound track is enough enjoyment for me.

yeah, sucks that we couldn't get more fight scenes like with the one with voldemort and dumbledore in the 5th movie/book. one of the best parts of the series.

Wait... you don't want to get into politics, but you mention it anyway? I'm so confused.
Personally, I prefer to separate the creator from the creation. But I understand if someone doesn't.
(By the way, I disliked Rowling before it became popular to dislike her.)

But that's besides the point, you want to know whether or not it's worth watching/reading Harry Potter. Personally, I've never read the books, but from what I've seen, Rowling is an above average author. As for the movies. I've watched all but one of them (for some reason I've never watched Order of the Phoenix). They're all slightly above average. I could take them or leave them.
Honestly, I think the best Harry Potter media is probably the games. Namely the first three... both the console versions and the PC versions (seriously, there's way too many completely different games with the exact same name). But even those are an acquired taste.

I personally think Rowling made a very interesting world that you want to know more about. But she did a terrible job at fleshing out that world and making a compelling story within it. I mean, it's clear that a gun is far superior to any of those unforgivable curses. Heck, some of the spells that the first year students learn, have far more destructive potential than any of those unforgivable curses. Yet she does nothing of the sort with them. The fandom has way more imagination than she ever has.

But if you're just wanting something about kids in a magical school though, there's plenty of other things to choose from. The Worst Witch for example. Or U.B.O.S.

The first few movies, are quite cozy and lighthearted, then Goblet of Fire happens, and the palette starts loosing colors, and it gets too serious.

People pointing sticks at each other and yelling nonsense is hard to take seriously.

I haven't watched the two last movies recently, but the 6th one suddenly have this shitty gritty and dark filter to it that makes it look like a DC movie.
