Hello everyone ::biggrin
I started learning guitar by myself (and with the help of a friend) and managed learned a few songs, so I figured "Why not try bass ?"::beer
Just with that, I started searching for a bass on a ressell site who is well known in France where I live::firgirlsmirk. There were a lot of cheap ones (80~150€), and then I came across this model (Harley benton MV-4JB)

I loveeeee it's color and I didn't want a boring black guitar anyways ::dodgyIt was 200€, and I have to sell my piano to buy it unfortunately ::frown. I made some reasearch about it, and apparently it's a pretty cheap price considering the sound and built quality. So, I wanted to ask if you knew any cool models for beginner that have a nice design and a pretty low price ::idea And It would also be great if you had some tips for those who start playing like me ::agree
(Also, it's the first time that I post a thread so if I made any mistakes, tell me please, and sorry if it's a dumb question)::angel

Harley Bentons generally are pretty solidly built instruments, personally I prefer to use Squiers due to their higher compatibility with Fender/Aftermarket parts so if you ever need to fix, upgrade, tweak, or replace anything it's a lot easier to source parts down the line.

If you're just planning on using it as-is, HBs are pretty good, but every so often, there will be a real lemon in the bunch, like, one could be fantastic quality for a super low cost, but one could just randomly have some blatant mess ups in its' construction so I've always found things to be a bit of Russian Roulette. Not trying to downplay how much of an accomplishment their generally high quality is, but just in my experience, I have had a few lemons and I would feel wrong to not mention that.

Overall, it's always good to look at your options first and weigh them before pulling the trigger. Don't worry about asking questions, if you don't know, you don't know, and wanting to learn more means you're the opposite of dumb.

PS. I personally use a modified Sterling S.U.B. Stingray I bought used for about $300 C.A.D. and an old Aria Pro II Cat Bass that's been out of commission for a while. (Long Story...)

Best of luck on your musical journey, friend.

I'm BIG on buying instruments second hand- pretty much all of my basses are Craigslist finds lol.
I love that color and I'm also a HUGE fan of the Jazz master pickups! I don't know if you've looked into how the different pickups (and I'm not talking about cheap vs expensive) effect sound, but Jazz master pickups are a favorite of mine!
Here's a cool video where you can really hear the difference (there's a ton of other variables, but I think it's just a cool video)

What RetrogradeKay said. Harley Benton are excellent basses to start with in general, while I do prefer Squier myself too.

Helps that it's super sexy, I say go for it!

Thanks! I never knew what these things were here for actually, I still have a lot to learn::sailor-embarrassed
