Something akin to Gbatemp's EoF. A board where users can have silly fun to their hearts content would having to worry about flooding boards intended for serious discussion. Could accommodate forum games as well. Maybe make it so post count doesn't increase there?

Please, don't judge me : I
just found this, some months ago.

Ugh Dx"
My mistake.
I can delete the message, but not this feeling of being ashamed...

I'm kind of two minds about this.

On the one hand I want people to have as much fun as possible, and the idea of having that kind of section as its own thing has worked wonderfully on the past across several decades worth of boards.

On the other... I feel that you can create pretty much any thread you want on General Discussion? I guess it all boils down to your (and everyone else's) definition of "shitposting".

I’m not sure how this would play out in our current community. While it sounds like opportunity for harmless fun, we’ve unfortunately already had users posting nsfw, gore, potentially racist/queerphobic memes and really spammy stuff on the status board. Some got banned yes, but mods literally can’t catch everyone. There’s just too many users, and we already have a phenomenal moderation team.
I worry this’d create unnecessary workload for them especially when there’s no real gain knowing that you can already post memes in status posts. I should know, I’m a walking meme.

I assume in shitposting, you can literally talk about anything, whether it pisses people off or not. Basically a free reign, but only on that one side, and not spread to the others.

Actually I just had silly stuff in mind, not free-for-all offensive stuff

I suppose I could test the waters in the General Discussion... ?

:devilish:

I'm with Waffles, you can make any kind of thread in the forums.

Make a Shitposting Megathread on General Discussion and call it a day. You don't need an entire board, and a single thread is way easier to moderate.

I do believe that the use of Megathreads could help the board's organization and management in general. For example, you could make and pin a 'Game Recommendations Megathread' on every "X Talk" board to avoid having a bunch of different threads about the same topic every time someone wants to ask the same thing. The same could be done on General Gaming Discussion with a 'Free Games Megathread', so every time there's a free game somewhere it gets posted there instead of getting an individual post that simply dies once the offer is no longer available.

The crux of the problem is what constitutes harmless fun. It's not an objective metric and it can be hard to draw all but the most obvious lines. Im not personally against the idea of people just being silly and letting go, but its a challenging topic.

Wise words.

I think the mega-thread idea is very solid, but we will see what Spike decides to do here.

I encourage you all to keep making suggestions, regardless of if they actually end up being implemented (hey, my only suggestion didn't make it, either).

I suggest a popcorn machine. Hey, won’t be possible, but doesn’t hurt suggesting. Maybe a nachos or hotdog stand too.

for so many people supposedly in favor this isn't getting any upvotes so...
