My biggest dream is to see this series come back alive... possibly in 2D. Shining Force II is the zenith of the series for me though I know some people prefer Shining Force III due to its presentation. Shining Force II has the best music, progression and characters imo. I would kill for a 2D-HD version of this game. I guess I will have to settle for some of the badass hacks that are here on this sight. Honorable mention goes to War of the Gods which is fantastic if not a bit rough around the edges. Good stuff!

I'm really hoping Sega would announce a special collection of some sort for the series to drum up interest for the series to be fully revived again.

Was hoping for the same. Sega took the sega collection offline which planted the seeds of hope in my mind. They were considering making a mobile game for Shining Force. The artwork, animation and sound actually seemed pretty impressive but it looked like a gacha game situation, much like Fire Emblems phone game so maybe it's for the best that it didn't work out? The SF series deserves more respect than it's getting and EX probably shouldn't count as a true Shining Force game btw. ;p I am a Shining Force slut and I'm not afraid to admit it XD

Based on this thread I’d say yes.

Btw I see you have a review section. I may be interested in contributing at some point b.c I am playing a ton of mods rn and people just don't really know this stuff exists. Gotta get the word out. how to apply to do some reviews?

Shining Force 4 needs to happen, and it needs to be in glorious, high bit pixel art.
You know what you're right! Thanks Gatsu. I completely agree and always appreciate a battle-hardened badass throwing in to a discussion lol

You’re asking about a guild application. Those can’t be submitted by level 0s. You need to reach level 1 first (25 messages required) and then you’ll be eligible.

Cool. Sounds good and makes sense. I'll try my best not to be a scrub

By all means, draft away and once you reach the required level, post it!

Alright, I can’t tell you this right now cuz level 0s also can’t send direct messages, but once you reach level 1 (which will unlock the ability to initiate a DM) feel free to dm a mod for further inquiries.

Shining Force is amazing, though at this point I would settle for a 2D tactical rpg Yakuza game.
I wonder what a Shining Force sandwich would even have on it?

If you ask me. Shining Force 3 was the one with a really complex plot behind it (a positive) and it advanced the formula in several ways, so I'd hope an eventual Shining Force 4 would build on that foundation.

I like the original series, however I believe that the essence of any series is tied to a particular team and time and you can't really "bring it back" in a different era with different people unless there's a real filiation. The Shining series proper was Sonic Software Planning/Camelot with some Climax early on and it ended with Shining Force 3 scenario 3. For my money, Shining Force 1 is better than 2, CD is the most underrated, and 3 sc. 1 and 3 are really good but sc. 2 felt mostly unnecessary. After that "Shining" was just a name to put on the most random action RPGs by random developers. I'd like to see some of the PSP games get proper translations though, at least they seemed like they had decent battle systems.

The one way I'd be interested is if Sega somehow made a deal with the Camelot people (what are they even up to these days?) to make a new Shining Force. Or whoever's left from Climax. And even then, they'd have to make sure the wordy repetitive writing from Golden Sun 2 and Dark Dawn is kept under control.

I lament the fact Final Conflict wasn't included in SFCD, I love it.

SF3 S2 is basically the same timeframe as Scenario 1 but from the imperial perspective. If you ask me, I love the idea and it feels fresh.

Scenario 3 does, in fact, "advance time" if we can put it that way.

Final Conflict came out after SCD, that's why. It would've been cool to get the whole GG trilogy remade as one game with 16-bit graphics, but at least we did get the extra Book 3.

No kidding? I love them all, CD included but I usually don't hear people preferring one over two. Are in these in lieu of storyline considerations? Sf2 did feel a bit lacking in terms of the lore but it was serviceable at least and the gameplay improvements, pacing, exploration and soundtrack felt like vast improvements over one.

That's true, I just wish they'd waited a bit longer to get everything on SFCD haha. There is a fan project trying to uplift Final Conflict to the 16 bit style but I have no idea if it's finished or not. There's also the Museum battle to consider as far as extras go, pretty cool.

1 felt more inspired to me. That goes for everything from towns to battles to characters designs and story. 2 has a lot of boring green fields and a lot of centaurs. It's still a good game, and it's definitely slicker and more user-friendly, but I find SF1's adventure more interesting.

Chances are we would have never gotten Shining Force CD in English had they waited that long. It would've had to be at least 1996... a scenario where it exists with all three GG games but not in English sucks, haha

Wisdom is the weak link of the classic series era. Not completely horrible but they could have done much better. Shining the Holy Ark is a much better spin-off.
I think I read somewhere that Shining Wisdom was intended to be a genesis game until they kind of had to rush production to meet demands for Saturn adventure rpgs upon the systems release and it shows that it was rushed as it was kind of shoddily put together. The soundtrack is amazing, however and was done by the great Motoaki Takenouchi. It's a cool game but the soundtrack is why I like it as much as I do.
