Jun Senoue made banger Genesis songs before Sonic 4. Wish he stopped using those God awful VSTs and use something like Furnace for the Genesis-style tracks.

This song in particular is not by Jun Senoue, it was composed by Tatsuyuki Maeda.

The whole Phantasy Star The End of the Millennium is a MASSIVE BANGER, my favorites being

The End of the Millennium (Main Theme)

Meet them head on! (Normal Battle)

Thray (Thray/Rune's Theme)

Defeat in a blow! (Boss Battle)

Behind the Circuit (some hi-tech dungeons)

Organic Beat (some hi-tech dungeons)

Cybernetic Carnival (Battle inside Vehicles)

Laughter (Zio's Battle)

The King of Terrors (Dark Falz* Battle)

Ooze (Profound Darkness 3rd phase)

*Dark Falz is the correct romanization. Dark Force is wrong.

Both acts of Flying Battery are AWESOME

Hydro City MY BELOVED

(fun fact: it is speculated that both acts are composed by Jun Senoue. DANG, I didn't know it, learned it right now. If it is in fact his... no wonder it is my favorite Sonic 3 song.)

Magnetic spheres is so fun, too bad at suck at this bonus stage so much and can't listen to the song in-game lol

Stone Age from Socket - Awesome polyrhythm with clever sound arrangement having background and foreground tracks swap the stage as the song progresses.
Star Cruiser Main Theme - Somber and hypnotic. The synth dances and builds to satisfying smooth waveforms.
Cursed Destiny from Elemental Master - Absurd build up in this one, sounds like it's from an all-time classic progressive rock act. The track completely explodes at the 40 second mark.
Another track from Elemental Master, Like the Wind has this bombastic drum arrangement that sucks you right in. Can you fight the urge to turn it to 11?
Home, Disappointment and Counterattack is my favorite tune from Midnight Resistance, a beloved Contra clone I had since I was a kid. Much better than the arcade original!
The Main theme from Vapor Trail is a carefully considered guitar led triumph with excellent progression.

Just some of my favorites.

One of my favorite music from MD games is Tube of Medusa, from Ecco Tides of Time.

The fans around the world have made their own versions of this great music. Hear some:

Despite being pretty basic compared with some music on the platform, this track always sounded epic and sort of anxiety inducing to me.

I still listen to it every so often.
Ah the original Columns. What a foreboding track, I agree. I'm biased because it was my first, but Columns 3 is a brilliant send off to the 16-bit platform and the music is just as strong a technical showpiece.
