Absolutely Sonic the Hedgehog. Sega has been treating the series like their own Call of Duty for decades. Minimum effort slop. Hey, it's worked well for them. Why change if it's raking in money? Nowadays standards are so low that people legitimately think Frontiers is "ambitious".

Assassin's Creed is the epitome of this. I've played every one except Shadows cuz fuck that game, and ironically it is remarkable how "nothing" like 85% of them are in all departments. Even the few actually good ones, for games in general, they're not great, just good.

I've wanted an Assassin's Creed in Japan for nearly a decade now, and instead of making one when the games were tolerable, they waited until they were at the absolute lowest point in terms of giving a shit, and on top of the game just going to be absolute garbage like the two before it, they fill it up with predatory bullshit like that ten dollar map revealing thing. Jesus fucking Christmas.

I'd put Final Fantasy on here, as well, but I only have like 65% of the spite for that series than I do for AC. I'd also put Sonic but that's like picking on a special needs kid by now.

As a Sonic fan, i must say it's true, not all of them are bangers, and also yeah, Assasin's Creed is the epitome of "we have a few good games that carry the reputation of the series so the new mid ones don't have to be hated that much", it's like Sonic in a way, i have to see the first guy that looks me in the eye and says "i liked Sonic 1 and 2, the levels are good" without reminding them that marble zone exists, and that's the beginning of the garbage in terms of level design, Sonic 3 is loved because the bullshit is tolerable and while there are some crappy sections, it's not painful to the point i just want to end the game so i can finally rest.

Megaman (X saga)

First 4 games are just awesome (X3 has some issues but the Zero project made it stand alongside X1 for me, hell i would say the Zero project makes it better than X2 and that's a HIGH bar for any X fan), X4 is just perfect, and then we dive from X5 to X8 and the series becomes utter garbage, painful experiences, and no matter how many say that the X vs Zero fight in X5 is great, it isn't worth the pain of X5.

That's what happens when developers start with a high bar and then have to make more, it's the Megaman X problem, from X1 to X4 the balance was maintained, vanilla X3 even, but then we dive into the rest and the series just nosedives into pain, why other series get better each sequel? Because the first one is good...but then comes the sequels with some improvement that makes it just better. Examples:

-Castlevania 1(pretty good overall) - Castlevania 3(play the japanese translated version, the true way to experience 3 as the japanese devs intended, and you will see a whole new world of upgrades to everything)

-Sonic 1 and 2(ok is see some good but there's lack of speed in most areas) - Sonic 3(Boy i'm speed!, yeah there's waiting in some areas but it's not as painful, also more routes for each level)

-Street Fighter 2 (ok, this is good) - Street Fighter Alpha (but this is better)

-Gargoyle's Quest 2 (ok it's fun) - Demon's Crest (It was perfect, right to every detail)

-Resident Evil 1 (pretty good) - Resident Evil 2 (IT'S BEAUTIFUL)

Dino Crisis 1 (ok nice dinosaur survival horror) - Dino Crisis 2 (but my gun says otherwise!)

Call of Duty It became an annual franchise from quality games to disposable games and all thanks to conformists who buy the game just for the title but not for its quality and the same goes for EA Sports FC (FIFA Formerly) which is an annual disposable franchise type more of the same and all because of conformism too.

Because E.T. It doesn't have any games that are really worth playing and none do justice to the 1982 Original Movie that itself was iconic and the same goes for Bubsy that was a Franchise that went from being Mediocre in the First Game to a Franchise What is a garbage dump from 3D onwards and those that came after in 2017 and 2019 didn't stand out at all for the saga.
