Saw this on Reddit! I think it's going to be similar to my idea for an arcade service online. Looks like it's gonna be multiplatform too!

Can they finally port their arcade variants? Will Daytona Usa 2 and Ghost Squad 2 finally see the light of day?

Hope: something similar to the old Game Room program that Microsoft ran on 360 and PC in like 2010 or so, a free space you can customize but you buy the games individually.

Expectation: these are actually capsule figures and the console logos are a mistake in the mock-up.

It would be *excellent* for Sega to finally be doing this work, but why now? I will happily buy all of these unless they're like $50 each (though I probably would do $50 for Planet Harrier), so I would love to see it. [edit - just noticed Dolphin Blue, I would go high on that too, haven't played it since E3 2003]

Nice. Sega arcade titles are the only arcade titles that were popular in my hometown arcades. No Capcom, no Konami and no Bamco so I solely grew up with Sega arcades (and continued to be exposed to it through Yakuza), this is practically catered for me.

So Sega being able to trademark that name kinda means it's not a video game per se that has the name "Arcade Paradise". Trademark logic is not "you can't use this name", it's mostly about preventing confusion when pretty much products about same thing having same name that has the logic of when the name used by a very popular product, another product can't be about same thing and use the same name because it would seen as confusing, scam and after stealing the thunder of the popular item. That's why you can't release a game Resident Evil but you can use the name when it's an entertaintment-based service like a horror house that customers physically enter and enjoy horror experience that is clearly not about Resident Evil the video game series.

So it tells us what "Arcade Paradise" may be. It may be a specific huge Arcade machine place (or name change for their arcade chain) or a new video game console that targets bringing Sega arcade games into a console format or it may be an online service that you download a program to play Sega arcade games on your preferred device or it may be just "Sega Arcade Paradise" as a video game that is collection of their arcade games.

Another thing is, it may be that the indie game "Arcade Paradise" was never trademarked or it wasn't trademarked in the country Sega trademarked this name, which is a reason of why video game names and consoles may have different names in different countries.

This is why Nintendo once lost law suit because in a random country a guy named Mario wanted to name his supermarket chain "Super Mario". Law basically said to Nintendo "dude you guys are not even in the same industry and these words are generic words that can be used about anything", and they probably proved how Nintendo was legally so stupid about it in tons of ways. This shit doesn't work like that, stupid Nintendo lolol.

The name isn't so important, since they can just change it for different regions. Mega Drive/Genesis, etc.

Someone on reddit pointed something out, though: when is February 30th??????

I would not put it past Sega just to churn out capsule toys. They have been saying, for a while might I add, that they had some interest in doing some kind of live service for their vast assortment of games (hence why most of them got de-listed off steam), so I was hoping that this was finally it

There's precedent too with them having done console gashapon for years, and I want to say (but can't remember for sure) that models exist of at least Hang On and maybe Outrun? They're cranked out a ton of merch over the years.

[edit - like this maybe, though I'd love to be wrong https://www.ebay.com/itm/187161976849 ]

I'm noticing some interesting games there. Some have never had console ports, and for the Model 3 games like Spikeout and Slashout, even the emulation is a little rough. So it would be great to make these available for play at a decent price. Sega has talked a lot about reviving their brand recently, they've launched development for a new Virtua Fighter and also pimped out Shinobi to some Euro randos to make an offbrand version of, so I think it might just be that kind of service.

i know the date is fake, but it's showing a possible example of what could be.

That just means the whole image could be fake. Worse fakes have been run with longer in the past, if this is one. So for now, we wait and see.

I’ll keep an eye for sure. Hoping it’s real cuz this past year I’ve been gradually realizing how much Sega been part of my retro memories.

I've heard good things about Spikeout and Slashout, as a beat'em up fan i'm keeping an eye out for this, i really hope this is true. SEGA has some really good stuff left out in the Arcades.

I hope it's not going to be part of that rumored subscription service Sega was interested in some months back. Best outcome for me if it's like Capcom Classics Collection (consoles and Steam) where you can buy in single digits the titles you want. Because honestly, the only games I'm interested in that picture (if that picture isn't a fake) is Groove on Fight and Sonic the Fighters.

Spikeout is a good game. It's a little bit more complex than the old 2D beat-'em-ups (about similar to a PS2 brawler or hack-n-lash), and it's pretty tough in single-player (maybe because it could be played with 4). There's a lot of enemies and you really have to fight hard not to get overwhelmed. It's kind of long, too, for a single sitting arcade game. I'd really recommend looking up the movelist if you're gonna play it. It was directed by Togashi of Yakuza fame, btw.
Slashout is an adaptation of the same battle system but fantasy and weapon-based. It's easier, I'd say. Cool too, but I prefer Spikeout.
