Samurai Shodown psp rom is misspelled as Samurai Showdown

We’ve a debate about this (well it wasn’t a debate but calling it one makes it sound funnier) with the persona dancing games on vita.
Dancing Star Night and Dancing Moon Night are called Dancing Star in Night and Dancing Moon in Night in English. But the “in”s aren’t in the Japanese title, but they’re in English.

This is extremely serious.

I'm aware, but I think it's a terrible pun.
It is. Would you believe I went on an entire lifetime not knowing it’s a pun? 🤣

Oh yeah, not only is it terrible, they came up with a cheesy subtitle out of their hats too. Vengeance of Darkstar or something?
They could have just kept it Thunder Force IV, then they wouldn't have needed to know how to spell Lightning.

They should have been struck down by both Lightning and Lightening for having such a harebrained idea.

Those are an initial batch of very old eboots i got off emupradise. The filename was already like that seems like I copy pasted it to the title. Not an excuse just an origin story. It's verifiable.

Whenever I have a rom or iso (or any other format) to download and there is a name involved, I always do some research on wikipedia (& wikias), gamefaqs or wherever there is relevant information, to give it an appropriate name.
normally, it is a default name by the english, I don't worry too much if it has just one mistake or several, I correct it and then, it's a matter of remembering.
sometimes, I rename it according to its original title in japan (or wherever it comes from).
don't get me wrong, this is a serious matter, considering the respect that every videogame released today inspires, especially considering everything indie. even the kusoge have their own history and identification, looking back in time...

whatever the developers intended, they achieved it.

by one letter of difference, the game has more fame (or infamy).
and this would attract people, just for that detail, make it more well-known.
like right now.

You are 100% correct, though that has never stopped me from retroactively numbering prequels, giving games slightly altered titles to reinforce franchise connections or selecting the Japanese title over the localized one, as is the case in question; bad for accuracy, good for my OCD.
