The anime's storyline follows the adventures of three wanderers, the outlaw swordsman Mugen, the ronin Jin, and the itinerant Fuu who saved the two from execution in exchange for help finding a samurai who smells of sunflowers.

The storyline is described as a "missing episode" of the trio's travels through Japan. They end up taking a ship to Ezo (modern day Hokkaido), which is suffering from conflicts between the ruling Matsumae clan and the indigenous people. Mugen and Jin's storylines run on separate yet parallel paths, and they interact with original character Worso Tsurumaki, who is associated with the native resistance of Ezo.

Players take control of three characters, they first complete a story campaign as either Mugen or Jin, and after one of these is completed Worso's campaign is unlocked. The remaining character Fuu is only playable in minigames.

the fact that this game was made a bit before no more heroes 1 for wii, it was an experimental version by suda51 for this anime, and its a canon side story for the anime too, had several frustrating parts, but overall was a quite good game, both in dub and undub

easily part of the underrated ps2 games

The guy kinda reminds me of that guy from Yakuza: Like A Dragon

It is especially given the father of this site a shame the similar Cowboy Bebop game on PS2 is Japan only and untranslated to this day.
If other people are unaware; The anime of Samurai Champloo was somewhat twisty spiritual follow up to Cowboy Bebop where they mixed Hip Hop sounds and styles to a 1800's samurai story. A cult classic when it comes to anime series.

I absolutely loved this anime and ended up purchasing the episodes back when you could buy movies and tv shows on the PSP. If it weren’t for emulation I would have missed out on this game. It was pretty nice that the intros to both the anime and the game were similar. Mugen was wild and just didn’t give a f***. 😂

Samurai Champloo Sidetracked is one of those super stylish games that people say "oh, it hasn't aged well" (they are too coddled by modern stagnation in their control schemes and can't adapt to a slightly different button layout), it rules, it rocks, it's made by my beloved, Suda51, it's based off a classic anime, what more can you ask?
