Robotics;Notes Elite (English Patched)

Vita3k Compatibility: Worked very well, it randomly crashed on me at some point, could have been just that instance.

Today we've got a special announcement to make: another entry from the SciADV franchise is now translated on our beloved console! This work was a collaboration between Hixty, froid_san and me. Hixty ported over the English translation and translated images; froid_san helped us overcome a huge obstacle that were the mails and Twipo crashing and fixed the font; and I translated the system messages, shortened the TIPS, edited the menu and other images, fixed other small stuff and playtested.

The patch also uses Committee of Zero's Robotics;Notes Elite translation improvement patch as its translation, as the official translation is poor, to say the least.

As a side note, I actually really wanted to play it first on Vita myself, but when it seemed like it wasn't going to get finished in time for summer, I decided to play the game on PC instead. So I had to take a little L and play it in a less comfortable setting to help finish this translation port. I hope it's worth it in the end!
What's translated:

  • All of the story text
  • All of the images
  • All of the menus and system texts
  • All of TIPS
  • All of Twipo and mails (thank you froid_san!)
  • All of the videos (thanks hachi-!)
What's not translated:

  • The Trophies
It's very recommended to use a guide with this game! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2256264147 or https://www.kirikiribasara.com/2020/10/15/roboticsnotes-elite-route-guide/

Special thanks: This has been one hell of a big project, so I'm very happy it's finally finished. Thank you to everyone who helped, including: Hixty, froid_san, Hachi- and Committee of Zero for the translation improvement patch and sc3tools.

See full entry...

Not sure why, but it seems like when I try to play it in vita3k... nothing is translated.

edit: wait. No. I just installed the wrong version. I'm dumb.

One of the most underrated entries in the SciAdv series, everyone should play this one seriously

Is this the same one that came out on switch or im confused....again

Can someone tell me what the heck is wrong with the official localizations in the first place? Or are y'all just gonna take the hackers' words for granted? Because whenever someone mentions these "improvements", they never specify what was fixed from the original script.
Official translators get paid to translate lines without context, they don't know what happens in-game, never played it, they never watched the source material either, don't care for it, do it as a job for money.
Fans on the other hand played the game, watched the source material, care and do it for passion.

Can do! So the Sci;ADV series (Steins;Gate, Chaos;Child/Head, and Robotics;Notes) are an interconnected series with some very specific but subtle connections, but from what I understand, each series/game has been largely handled by a different localization team. This has lead to certain aspects not lining up between games, and overt references not being apparent at all due to the nuance in each translation.

One that comes to mind is an important phrase "Whose eyes are those eyes" that pops up in Chaos;Head, which then re-appears in the bulk of the other games, each with a completely different translation. "Those are gods eyes?" "Those eyes, who are they?" etc. You can usually get the gist of the reference if you've played the other titles, but there are also some deeper callbacks and connections that are entirely lost if you're playing the official versions.

The fan patches fix all of these issues, in addition to typos and text-wrapping issues, as well as other things like translating signs and images that still appear in Japanese in the official releases. Chaos;Child has a puzzle that depends on you being able to read a map they show you, that was entirely in Japanese up until the Switch release. Otherwise you would need to use a guide, or these fan patches to even progress the game.

tl;dr - there are inconsistencies between series entries due to different localization teams not getting clued in to specific connections and details, and the group that makes these patches fixes all of those as well as other typos/glitches/un-translated graphics.

A review on the game's Steam page left by one of the guys that worked with the Committee of Zero on the translation:
"I love Robotics;Notes to death, but please use the patch. You see my hour count? (it was 228 hours) That's time dedicated to fixing this damn game I love so much because it was broken as hell. The translation here is a mess; it's the worst one we've gotten so far. There's cut content, censored content, mistranslations, character assassinations, and so much more. Just pick up the patch."

idk about this game specifically but sometimes lines are translated without context or was a down in a rush, or limited budget.
