Rest in Peace to a real one––legendary director of Blue Velvet, Eraserhead; creator of Twin Peaks, etc. has died at the age of 78.

One of the greatest filmmakers of his epoch, his most enduring contribution to culture is in the creation (or excavation) of the Lynchian, a mood and location of feeling and iconography that has influenced mass culture, internet culture, music, videogames, et al.

Any Lynch fans present? What's your favorite of his films/your first exposure to Lynch?

Because this is a video game forum, a partial list of video games that bear the (deliberate or inadvertent) influence of his work and sensibility:

Silent Hill (series)
Deadly Premonition
Mizzurna Falls
Harvester

...I feel there are lots more. Any others come to mind?

Alan Wake is one that instantly comes to mind.

Good list.
Alan Wake and Killer7 like others before me have said.
Sam Fisher, Suda51 and Swery65 are all very David lynch coded.

Link's Awakening.

R.I.P. to one of the greatest, and most unique, directors ever. Outside of filmmaking, he was also an early internet pioneer who started his own website and forum in the '90s. Very influential filmmaker, and one of my favorites. Sad to see him go.

Oh man, that's a major bummer... There genuinely is nobody else out there with a creative style like his.

I'll always remember my first time watching Lost Highway - at the time I had no idea who David Lynch was or what his movies were like, so I went in completely blind.

Holy hell, never before or since have I left a cinema as confused as I did back then. I had no idea what the hell I had just watched and was honestly really frustrated with how little coherent narrative I was able to draw from it.

But then I kept thinking about it.
I kept thinking about the imagery, the atmosphere, the feel of the film and while I don't think I ever managed to put it together into a cohesive whole, I definitely ended up fascinated and craving more.
(To this day the Mystery Man - or "eye-guy" as we ended up calling him - from the movie pops up regularly when my friends and I talk about surreal films.)

His films may not have been for everyone, but nobody can deny that they were unique and interesting and creative - and especially in the current, desolate filmmaking landscape those qualities are worth more than gold.
