Voting is now live for this month's Nostalgia Society. Quick warning, but for some reason Straw Poll is blocking VPN users from voting even though I turned that option off in the poll settings ::badpc

Nice. Picked gta (obvious bias from me), might be an excuse to finally revisit the hack.

Haunting Grounds has something to do with Haunting Ground? the first one sounds like a Cabela's like game lol.

I am very surprised to see Clock Tower on first position because the game is not from most people's era and it wasn't released outside Japan, so the nostalgia effect is missing completely.

The translated romhack has been covered by alot of english speaking youtubers in the last decade, making it gain alot of popularity outside Japan.
The game also got an official english translated "remaster" with Clocktower Rewind last year.

Exactly, in the last decade. The game is from 1995, that's where the nostalgia comes into play. I know many games I played 10 years ago, but I feel no nostalgia for any of them, basically because they were not released when I was a kid, so I can't feel that.

I have a couple of friends who played Chrono Trigger for the first time the moment it was released for DS, but I played it when it was released for Super Famicom. They can't simply feel the nostalgia because the game was released 14 years before in a completely different gaming era, and the first time I played it I was a kid, and it was the first version of the game. That's why it's impossible to feel nostalgia for playing a remaster of a game you have never played originally.

Voted Psychonauts cuz I’m a scaredy cat for horror games ::nervous-prinny

Super Metroid is a game I have alot of nostalgia for, even though I was born way after the SNES ceased production since I played the Wii Virtual Console port alot at circa age 9. Its not unlikely some people feel nostalgic for Clock Tower after hearing of it only the last decade and playing it emulated as a youth. It was the case for me. I had a crappy laptop where only old games on emulators ran well.

Damn I always seem to miss the thread where games are nominated xD

I went for something I haven't played but have been curious about for a while (Eternal Darkness)

::sadkirby Maybe in addition to a separate nomination thread, we encourage everyone to make a nomination in the active thread as well, towards the end of the month?

Sort of shocked that my nom is winning all of a sudden lmao
Haven't voted yet, when the close? I'm surprised Nightmare Creatures got 3 votes so far O_o I was half joking when I nominated it. I've never beaten it and remember nothing but frustration when I was young, and it didn't disappoint when I replayed it three years ago ::angrygenjin
Nightmare Creatures (USA)-220607-193508.png

I do remember it was pretty satisfying to wind up and crack zombies in half with a heavy hit from the quarterstaff ::flexing

Such a hard game man xD
I don't think I've ever beaten it without level select. Just absolutely merciless, tough as hell platforming too.

Well, playing on childhood is the base for nostalgia. People who are 20 who played Clock Tower when they were 10 will feel nostalgia, but the complete picture is when you play the game the moment it was released, because if you skipped the moment it can't be undone. Like when you play a new game when it is released, you're waiting for it and then it comes out. The people who play it 1 or 2 years later will not feel the same, ever, the moment is past and it's non recoverable.

Reboots and remasters can be played but they are also past, the game was released long ago and it only helps for the people who couldn't play it when it was released first time.

In a nutshell, childhood is nostalgia always, but the scene around it varies depending on the game's momentum.

Sorry ::sailor-embarrassed
I was super late with the nomination thread this month too. Normally I'd aim to give people longer to nominate.

Poll closes in like 2 hours ar 9AM UCT

RIght. Now I have no idea what tf to do. We've ended up with both Resi 3 and Clocktower Deluxe with 6 votes a piece at the close of the poll.

Might mean another tie-breaker poll I guess? Give me a few minutes ::sailor-embarrassed

A 3rd merge-post?!?!? crazy.

Here's the tie-breaker poll: https://retrogametalk.com/threads/rgt-nostalgia-society-5-tie-breaker-poll.15619/
