Quick note for RGT forum members: I have been running these small high score competitions on another forum for years now, and we've just fired them up again. In interest of getting some more competitors involved for some more fun, I am also posting them here for the RGT folks. That's why this is listed as "Battle #50", but it's the first one this forum has seen.

We typically get 3-7 competitors per battle, and I would really like to have double that or more.

These are simple competitions for fun, to try and get people playing games and chatting about their high score strategies. That's it.. nothing too serious!

Really excited to see what you guys can do!

RGT HIGH SCORE BATTLE #50!

Site is updated! Here’s our current battle details:

BATTLE #50
Game:
Abadox
Platform(s): Nintendo Entertainment System
Challenge Type: High Score
Game Details: Full Game
When: Oct 27th - Nov 9th, 2025
Chosen By: raskulous

I’ve updated the website with the new game, we must destroy Parasitis! Let's play an old-school horror-themed shooter for Halloween!

Good luck everyone, please submit your scores via screenshot or video by replying directly to this post!

---

RULES
  1. Competitions last two weeks, and close @ midnight on the final day.
  2. Post screenshots in this thread as proof.
  3. The winner from the previous competition chooses the next game to play.
  4. You cannot choose twice in a row. 2nd place will choose if someone wins twice in a row.
  5. If there’s a tie, the person that submitted the high score first gets to choose.
  6. Games must be high score compatible (think “arcade style scores” like Pac-Man, or Spy Hunter, not Super Mario).
  7. Emulation is okay (MAME is often the best for high scores).
  8. No save state manipulation (pausing to take a break is fine though).
  9. Submit scores as soon as you get them! To keep the competition rolling and fair, do not hold on until the last moment to submit.

Points will be awarded for the entrants, based on the position finished. This is to encourage wider participation, and the points will be posted on the website after each battle is complete.

POSITIONPOINTS AWARDED
1st Place10 Points
2nd Place7 Points
3rd Place5 Points
4th Place3 Points
5th Place2 Points
Any honest attempt:1 Point

Overall, we should keep it simple. This is just a good time, not a crazy official high score competition! Game plays should ideally be short and fun so people that can’t invest hours into this can still compete. Obviously we are working on a trust based system here, so don’t ruin it for the others!

Here’s a simple website I made to keep track of the competition.

One quick note about this game: It doesn't seem to have a high score table that shows, and after your game is complete, it disappears. You'll have to take care to catch your high score!

I suggest recording with your phone, or screen recording software (if emulating) so you can pull a screenshot of the score.

I have a little phone tripod thing that I have used in the past to record CRT gameplay, so I'll set that up and record my attempts.

Here’s my first score.. there’s a nasty choke point in stage 2. If you die, trying to get past the 4 shooting things on the wall with no speed is really difficult.

That's absolutely a trouble spot. Even shooting one way so you only gotta dodge 3, still no dice.

This is ending in a few days (Sunday at midnight MST)! Would be great to get a few more scores in. I'm going to put in a bit more time this week to try and get past that tough section.

Moving forward I will be pushing out a new version of the website that will allow anyone to submit their high score right on the site, so we can take in players scores from a bunch of different sources. I would love to get up to around 10 or more submissions per battle for some healthy competition.

Good luck everyone!

Only posting this as a proof of concept since I think it goes against the spirit of the challenge.

Stage 1 boss has a blind spot you can see here. All you have to do is sit still and shoot the black orbs it periodically sends your way for 50 points apiece. Someone with more time to burn would be able to max the score counter easily.

I tried playing the game legit and managed a few attempts over 20K but in general stage 2 whooped my butt. Words cannot describe how much I hate the hitboxes on enemies in this game. Combine that with the fact that you have to go back to the beginning of the stage after dying and you have a recipe for 'I don't wanna deal with this anymore' :loldog

Nice find Clippy! We do have rules against score cheesing since nobody wants to just sit there and rack up a score with no consequence.

I ran into the same thing with a few other games, too.

Next week we'll have a better game, I guess I didn't playtest this one enough.

Okay, I finally got past the choke point on stage 2.. I actually died before it and decided to continue anyway with the laser instead of the spread and it worked out really nice.

I think the laser is the play to get through, but it's still tight.

Well I did better but getting to 300k is a hard ask lol.. someone on another forum is in the 300k range!

I’ll try again tomorrow, but I’m not sure it’s happening.

Battle is over, congrats to Glowsquid from the RGB forums! He will pick a new game for the next battle, and I will update the site ASAP.
