The actor, Kenya Sawada, was picked by Capcom to play Ryu but due to a miscommunication they didn't know that the director had already cast Byron Mann. Capcom for some reason was dead set on promoting Sawada regardless, despite the fact he could hardly speak English, so they made the movie include that random scene where he shows up, does nothing, then leaves while hyping him up somehow.
