Few days ago, like a week ago or so, a final (or almost final) version or the original Resident Evil 1, for Game Boy Color, was finally leaked into the internet. I never thought that game was completed in its day.
Yes, the game for PSX (and Saturn... and PC) had a 3D port for GBC. Not for N64. Not for GBA (it was not even announced by then). For GBC (not compatible with the original GB, sorry).
(When smoking was cool).
I did not see the game here, in the repositories, so It seems nobody give it a fuck in this web? Oh well...
Anyways, that Resident Evil 1 port was (fairly) famous in the media, during its development for GBC around 1999-2000.
Finally being cancelled by Capcom (for unknown reasons), and replaced by "Resident Evil Gaiden" for GBC a year later (which is... somekind of an alternative sequel of RE2 or something like that, I really do not care),
(Resident Evil... what? What is that?)
I always supposed the original RE1 port did just not entered in a mere 4MB cart for GBC.
Well, surprise! it did.
If you thought RE2 for N64 by Angel Studios was an amazing achievement (which it is, it even have normal 3D controls for the first time in the series, lol Capcom), see how some guys re-imagined RE 1 for GBC without discarding the 3D, using only sprites and a lot of pre-rendered backgrounds in very low number of colors).
I will not lie: the game seems a joke. But for sure it is one of the most impressive things in a GBC I've ever seen.
("Resident Evoool")
PS: This GBC port development was contemporary to the cancelled N64's original version of Resident Evil 0 (they probably were planned to be released by the same dates, mid-late 2000) and for sure it was previous to the announcement of the acclaimed Gamecube Remake of the original game, which was released in 2002 as an exclusive game for GC. RE Remake would be exclusive for 6 or 7 more years. Then, in the next gen, started to be ported to "everything" during many years.
(From a N64's S.T.A.R.S. game... to a very forgotten GC title: Resident Evil 0)
