Rental store artifacts

7 labels affixed to this Sega Genesis cart by Blockbuster Video. Feels a bit excessive, especially the sticker reminding you to rewind when you’re done. Anyone have recollections or evidence of other rental stores use or tags?

I no longer have this, but the label being slap bang on the middle of the disc never really made me feel frustrated, only a weird sense of nostalgia for a bygone era I was too young to truly experience

Oh that’s not too bad. Just enough for them to claim ownership.

As someone who lived through that era, picking a game or movie for the weekend really was a great experience.

I hated those "please rewind" stickers getting affixed to things and pasted where they didn't belong.

My local video store permanently claimed ownership of a game they sold me by using a marker on the label lol!

I think that rental stores no longer existed already at the time of my birth.

I’ve thought about what it would take to open a retro video game rental store in modern times. Given the insane market for retro games, you’d have to take a $300 deposit on rentals just to protect the business.
There are a few independent video rental stores around, but few and far between. I went to Videodrome in Atlanta a few years ago. It was so cool and they had some real gems.

"Mom & Dad" rental stores are definitely a thing of the past now, but something like this seems to be thriving:

It's not ideal, though — it's very much for the wealthy hobbist rather than for the kid with birthday money, which seems to go against the spirit of things.
