Not where I want to be
Ever since playing Spyro when I was a kid I always loved the idea of playing as a dragon or have a dragon mount that could fly and not just glide, that dream died with Lair, I want to know what game has the best dragon or flying other mount mechanics you can play?

I totally get what you mean, Spyro made flying feel magical, and it’s hard to find games that really capture that same feeling. Lair had the right idea but didn’t quite stick the landing.

If you’re still chasing that dream, a few games do flying mounts or dragon riding really well. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight added dynamic flying that actually feels smooth and fun, it’s not just gliding, you get real momentum and control. For pure dragon combat, Century: Age of Ashes is all about aerial battles on dragons, and it’s surprisingly fast and responsive.

If you’re into older games, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Divinity II: Ego Draconis both let you fly as a dragon, though they’re more niche. And Dragon’s Dogma has one short dragon-riding moment that’s super cool, even if it’s not a full feature.

I've played a few games like that, Drakengard 1~2 lets you mount the dragons to spit fire against the enemy troops and have sky stages similar to panzer dragoon, but open instead of on-rails. Probably the best part of the gameplay in these games, but nothing spectacular either.

Divinity 2 Dragon Knight Saga has the character transform into a dragon and battle against towers and stuff, but that's probably the worst part of an otherwise fun game because everything feels extra janky.

meh very username proves I know nothing of this style of games. AD&D: Dragon Strike for NES? or that vertical sh'mup witb the 2 headed dragon for Turbografx... shit idk I tried to see what Golden Axe: Beast Rider notoriety was about but Xenia don't run it n maybe you flew a beast in that but Xenia won't let Prof Doctah Prnz find out about it.

Panzer Dragoon Remake (the 2020 one) on Steam is dece. Panzer Dragoon Saga for Saturn is an absolute banger of a classic but it's more JRPG than anything.

in Altered Beast for GenMD or arcade or the GBA sorta-sequel you *turn into* a flyin dragon but other than these things in these franchises... nothin else rings a beLL so my memory can go to heLL kthnx

Fracking love Drakan they need to make a new one or remake the 2 old ones. It needs love.

as a game with dragons do Dragon Spirit count ?
If I can ride the dragon it counts. Personally I would prefer the riding to be at any time than just story locked to certain events or battles but with older games that's just how most games were structured in direction.

Not exactly what you're asking for, but WoW added a new system called Dragonriding (now Skyriding) in the previous expansion, and it's one of the best systems they've ever added to the game imo, it makes flying a gorillion times more dynamic and fun.
You can still enable the old way of flying but I've never ever looked back since they added it.

Well Dragon spirit is more you control a dragon ><
Oh I see, yeah I'm looking for a bight more weight to the mount as this reminds more of a Galaga arcade top down flying/space shooter than the feel of either being a dragon on on dragon back.

I absolutely agree with you. It just baffles me they hadn't done it already, especially with the sequel being locked in the PS2 jail. Hell, just by writing that post I felt the itch to play them again.

Panzer Dragoon Orta is one of the few titles that got me interested in Xobox emulation and couldn't get that running should look into that again. I got Dragon's Dogma on cheap due to 2 coming down the pipeline, I'm not sure if the second game has any sliver either.

Have Drakengard 2 and I'm glad I still do, didn't know that about Divinity or else I would have boughten that earlier than just left it in my library after my friend dumped playing with me.
Drakan: Order of the Flame and Drakan: The Ancients' Gates.
Now that's a title I hardly hear. I have the second game as for some reason I never get the first title in any series of a game maybe it's now time to dust off the old PS2.

You definitely should look into it again, got the game running on my Steam Deck using Xemu and, with almost zero effort, it works really, really well.

To be honest I didn't even think I remembered them until I read your post, so I should thank you for refreshing my memory.
