How can I upload a GIF as my profile icon?

Are you getting any kind of error? Maybe your file is not really a GIF, but a MNG or animated WEBP.

1-you click on your nick like in the 1 step.
2-go over your pfp with the mouse cursor.
3.click on edit, and you can add a gif as a pfp.

It might be the same issue as another one reported here days ago, where apparently some files fail to be attached. People have reported that just retrying several times seems to work.

Also, what's the file size?

GIFs are limited in size by the server. I think to 30 kbs.

My gif is well over a meg. Possibly 2 megs... Mostly because of resolution suggestions. (Then again it's only like 10 frames, and the number of frames seems to be related to it timing out)

I confirm that it is no longer possible to upload other gifs, even small ones (100 kb), while previously it accepted even 600 kb gif files (never managed to upload larger ones, as far as I'm concerned).
Furthermore, it is not possible to change the position of the one already present, by dragging it (that is, saving it gives an error). ??‍♂️

I think I found a solution. Go to edit your profile, select your avatar --> browse and when you get the pop up to select your picture, in the bottom right there is a drop down menu that says "All Supported Types" change that to "All Files" and you should be able to select whatever you wanted to use.

Nah, if that was a solution, even a five year old would have figured it out. Of course you can select a gif file, but when it's uploading it into the profile frame, it gives an "oops" error, and the image doesn't appear.

P.S. Hmm... I'm afraid that now, unlike in the past, it only accepts very very small files (less than 50 kb?). ?

If webm/webp gets working here, such tiny images or animations actually could work, i bet i could squeeze my avatar into 80k.

There's been huge advancements in video and image compression compared to the DOS and Win 3.1 world gif was made to handle (and then PNG to be an optional format because gif had it's compression algorithmn under a patent).

The main advantage png has anymore is it's inherently lossless. (though webp also has a lossless option, works pretty good too).

Pal, let us know if you can fix this issue. As for me, I can't even insert 100kb gifs into my profile; it always gives that damn "oops" error. I'm afraid I'll be stuck forever inside Mazinger Z, as a good, loyal and diehard Gō Nagai fan. ?

I'm afraid to touch my image now in case i can't get it back.
Hahaha... I was warning you about the same thing: the real danger of being left without an animated avatar, forever! I'm afraid we'll have to settle for the one already present. ?
