Something that's always really fascinated me about the PSN releases of PS1/PS2 games digitally is that they aren't perfect by any means but when they do bug out it's usually for an incredibly bizarre reason that I don't see with modern emulators. And this isn't counting the many issues that arise from trying to play the games off of the actual discs in earlier models. Usually when I hear about the PS2 emulation being faulty, it's in regards to Persona 4 or Silent Hill 2's rendering.

Silent Hill having a chance to make the audio channels get drowned out with a low frequency buzzing with the handgun is one of my personal favorite examples of this and it is one that happened to me, but the only time it did happen was when I shot multiple shotgun rounds point blank into the final boss which caused the audio to completely halt because of the intensity of the shots landing. At the time, I legitimately thought this was intentional.

Or the time in my Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne playthrough where one boot caused any and all FMVs to strangely freeze on the first frame, which made things like the main menu or the Amala warp FMV very awkward to see, although that could possibly be because my hard drive is over a decade old.

There are lots of rare cases of things like this happening, and if you have any experiences with the PS1/PS2 Classics on PS3 that were like this I would love to hear them.

[Thank god we now know how to disable VSYNC on that emulator, by the way. ]

I haven't really paid much attention to the PSN versions honestly, since I have the Steam Deck I can use emulators that allow for widescreen options. There's games on PSN that I'd wished that they'd put on there, like Radiata Stories or Brave Fencer Musashi, but I suppose it's understandable if Sony wants to release more well known titles instead.

PS2 Classics tend to have a lot of graphics issues. Fortunately the recent port of SkyGunner works quite well.

I would think Sony doesn't really have much incentive to work on their in house emulator. The games work well enough. People buy them but not enough people to bother spending more money on it. From the point of view of Sony why would you spend money on something that works well enough and probably doesn't make you a shitton money anyway?

Emulator devs have different incentives than Sony execs. Emulator devs do it because they want to make the games work properly. Sony execs want to make their shareholders more money all the time.

for the most part. i had the music fail to play and played a segment without music but it kicked in once the track changed.
on the ps4 version of wild arms 3 i had pretty regular crashes from trying to use certain spells in mostly boss fights, never finished it because it became so prevalent but also because i ruined my build trying to copy something i saw on gamefaqs.

Once I tried to play MK Shaolin Monks on my PS3, it was working fine until the snake mini-boss fight (before Reptile), it was a mix of graphical glitch because the snake was flickering pretty fast and also seemed to be moving but kept in the same place, it wouldn't trigger an event needed to progress so I just gave up lol

I miss when companies at least tried to port there old games into the current gen consoles. I remember when we got releases of PSX, PS2, PSP and Virtual Console re-releases at a weekly basis.

Yeah, with ps1/2 games on ps3/4/5
Sony has the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it. if it is broke but makes us money, fuck it" Mentality.
Why emulation will always beat hardware <Aside some rare cases>
