Basically the title.

For Context: I LOVE Dot Hack series.

And for years i'd been trying to satiate that hunger for new Dothack with plethora of other games.
While yes i understand to some degree that it was one of a Kind, i kinda wish that more games like that existed.

All in all this thread basically surmised to 2 things:

"Do you know any other Pseudo-MMO like Games?"
"If you do what are some of your Recommendations?"

And also don't recommend the SAO-series games please because well i already finished all of it lmao.

Don't know if you have the same idea of a pseudo mmo as me, but Monster Hunter. I've been a fan since childhood, not a single full scale mmo has come close to MH for me. It's got all the stuff an mmo does just on a smaller scale.

Yeah i do play MH because of that as well, for years stuck in Gen 2 untill i got my hands at Rise recently (I technically play GU but it's on borrowed devices won't count that)

But the Pseudo-MMO that i asked here is specifically like it was designed as if it was an MMO but Not, yeah basically like .hack// series, it's so far and few between it basically racked my brain everytimes i'm trying to find something akin to it.

Sword Art Online Hollow Realization (Vita)
edit: I've read your comment on SAO after posting this, sorry

Phantasy Star Portable 2 (PSP)

Xenoblade's detractors always call it an offline MMO, same thing for Final Fantasy XII, what do you think?

Xenoblade never feels like that for me, but FFXII definitely has that vibes, though it probably because of its battle system primarily.

It's not just detractors. The gameplay was heavily based off games like WoW, to a degree that is very noticable. And it's not really a bad thing; it's just the gameplay, while the story and music still sticks to the JRPG style.

I'd recommend the Switch version of the first Xenoblade Chronicles, which is perfectly done. After that, you could play Xenoblade Chronicles X, as the gameplay is extremely good (and the Switch version fixes a lot of the negative aspects), but keep in mind that it has various writing flaws. After that, I'd skip XC2, as the writing is terrible and it lacks the gameplay refinements of the rereleases of the previous games. XC3 is not too bad, but I never completed it because the menu system is frustrating.

Since this is a type of game I absolutely love:
Phantasy Star Online (E1&2 on GC), Phantasy Star Portable (1, 2, 2i on psp)
Dragon Quest IX (basically just a fucking monstrous scale DQ game on DS)
Dragon Quest X Offline (literal mmo that got released as SP on Switch/PC - need eng patch unless you know Japanese)
Any xenoblade game (XC2 or XCX imo the most)
9th Dawn III (pc)
Fantasy Life (3ds)
Any Monster Hunter Game, Monster Hunter Frontier (PC or Vita/ps3, private server local hosting or one of the numerous public servers run by the community) is a literal MH mmo.
I'm definitely missing some, I feel like. That's not to mention things like 2009scape singleplayer, or other literal offline mmos. Or that one game coming out on steam designed to be an 'offline mmorpg' called Erenshor.

NetEscape is exactly what you're looking for methinks, but there's only a demo available on Steam at the moment. It's a walking sim, so please don't expect a .hack-like game lol.

The game's description says it all:

You are a gaming journalist tasked with exploring and documenting the remnants of a nearly abandoned 90s MMO named NetEscape. At midnight, NetEscape's servers will shut down forever, leaving you only 30 minutes to gather the screenshots you need for your retrospective article on this long-forgotten game. As the clock ticks down, you wander through eerie digital landscapes, encounter the few strange players who remain, and uncover clues to a chilling mystery that refuses to stay buried.

Here's the link btw:

I think Darksiders 2 would be what you’re looking for. That game almost feels like an accidental MMO with how large and barren and loot heavy it is. Almost feels like it used the wrong genre.

I still wanna get into .hack eventually, but it looks so good.

Basically every idea I had for a suggestion was already covered here. xD
People say that Kingdoms of Amalur is very similar to a MMORPG and in fact it was supposed to be one. I haven't played it yet.

I also thought of Ragnarok and MapleStory DS. Both were based on the actual MMORPGs.
Only the former is translated, though. I only tested it briefly, as I never cared much for the original.
There was a fangame called Ragnarok Battle Offline but I don't know much about it.
I'm aware of other games based on MMOGs, but they might not be relevant here, so I'll hold off on mentioning them.

I enjoy MMORPGs but oftentimes there's nobody to play with, so these kinds of games are good substitutes I guess.
