Hi All
New to this site and I’m looking for some advise please . Me and my son were having a conversation about back in the day when I used to game and I told him about one of my favourite game die hard trilogy and how I loved to play on the airport level with a namco light gun. So we ventured on a mission to re create it for old times sake. We bought and old PS1 and light gun from eBay only to discover it wouldn’t connect on his new tv. Thinking the PS1 was faulty bought another on FB market place. Then realised we needed a hdmi adapter. Final it worked . However the discovered and researched than light gun will only work on a CRT tv. So back on FB market place I go and travel to dartford to pick up an old tv from a lady who poor old Dad had passed away. Test still the light gun did not work. So back on eBay to get another gun assuming it was faulty. Still no luck so I tried another AV adapter assuming that could be faulty but still no luck. So the game plays perfectly with controller but no light gun will register at all.attached the type of TV I’m using. Can any body help please as we are at a loss . Help lol !

Hello! Welcome to RGT!
I'm afraid I have no experience with light gun games or technology, but can I recommend making a post about it here in the "original hardware help" section?:
Regardless, hope you enjoy your time here and find the answers that you are looking for

Edit: A mod moved it to that section, anyway. So all good hehe ::flexing

i did the same thing, got a PS1 & G-Con45, Point Blank, Time Crisis Ect
but could not find a damn CRT TV anywhere in my country :(
the old guns wont work on anything besides a CRT

so i got myself a Sinden Light Gun that works on modern displays and now i can play all the shooter games from any platform :)
you just have to configure the emulators for it which can be annoying depending on the emulator
but its worth it

Hello and welcome to Retro Game Talk ::heart
Anyways let's stop beating around the bush and answer your question, light guns don't work on newer televisions and only work on older crts, I don't know the technical stuff behind this, but it just doesn't unfortunately, anyways hope you have a wonderful day or night!!

Did your light gun come with the adapter you are meant to plug into the AV cable of PS1? Namco guns use more advanced technology that synchronizes with the CRT signal and uses active tracking that is enabled with such thing, but the additional cable needs to be plugged in back of console or if not there, to yellow composite cable (The adapter in theory lets S-Video and RGB work with the gun still).
PS1 had few types of guns, like earlier konami justifiers that worked more like NES Zapper, though if I remember right, die hard should support both guns, but it could be that Die Hard works with the other type of PS1 guns, but not namco one. Could try to see if Namco game works with the guns right. If the CRT is too modern in one way or another, that could introduce lag and make the signal unusable.

If you do not mind few concessions, emulation, and investment, there is a modern lightgun "Shinden" that works with emulators and tracks a border in the TV screen.

Techincally there was a Namco lightgun for PS3 generation that works with modern TV's but it's support is two titles large, and it actually uses something similar to wiimotes and sensor bar to achieve functional tracking. There is almost no way to use the gun on PC for emulation either. But it is a type of light gun that works on modern TV's. Some map wiimotes into their PC for lightgun emulation.

Still, there is for classical lightguns quite a few parts, and for NES, the actual issue is not screens as much as the latency. People have gotten NES lightguns function on new TV's by modifying the game code to have more delay for the simple white dot based tracking NES did. The flashing was part of the function there.
